Tudor P 01

It's the most unloved sports Tudor in the current line up. Quite unique, doesn't sell well. AD only received 2 since launch from Basel last year, and cannot seem to get another watch from Tudor since. I was just chatting with the watch specialist in the AD. It has all the ingredients of a future collectible.. unpopular, few made, unique design, different, possibly a flop and short lived model. Sounds like some models of other brands that became grail collectible once discontinued. Time will tell...

I think your AD is correct, except that its run is hardly over.

There have been a bunch of watches that started out slow and picked up steam in just a couple of years.

Yachtmaster II is a good example.

It’s clear that opinions vary, though I happen to really like this model, especially the vintage vibe. For me it wears best on a custom Vintager aftermarket leather strap, though I like it on NATO as well.

I guess that's the only angle or hope that ADs have in talking this piece up, as I'm sure many are now left trying to do. I'm a Tudor fan, with a few in the collection, but the PO1 is likely to be about as collectible as the Aeronaut, Hydronaut, Archeo, Miss Tudor and other largely forgotten Tudor models and lines, IMO.

Those are certainly some factors that merit collectability, but why it's not popular is clear and easily the biggest consideration when it comes to desirability, wearability. The P01 has disproportionally long and pointed lugs that extend well beyond regularly sized wrists. And with a polarising strap designed to go with that I suspect it will be extremely difficult to find alternative straps that actually work and look well with its long lug profile. The collector market for it will be a small one.

Exactly this.

I looked and informed for one because the design is good imho (I got offered one as well) but I didn't want or need it. I'm nog going to spend a few grand and put it away and do nothing with it, since it's too big for me to wear.

I got the first one from my AD upon arrival. I gave it a year in the collection and off it went. If you are looking for a collectable you can do better.

IMO the watch looks great BUT the brown strap looks all wrong, it clashes with the black face. I had a black ostrich strap made and did away with the clasp and used a old fashion pin buckle.

Actually my AD sold all of theirs. The watch specialist was chatting with me, and states that Tudor cannot commit for another order. He suspects that it might be a one or two batch production due to low demand. He was hinting that if there's one to be had in another store with discount, it might be a future collectible. He was not trying to sell me a watch.

Love the dial, hate just about everything else about it. Definitely a cool conversation piece but it's never going to find its way to my wrist.

Wish they make it 40mm n shorter lug to lug make it wearable for most of the people.

I love mine. Now, whether it stands the test of time and becomes collectable, or even sticks around the collection , is another thing.

It’s a tool right?

Is it a tool in the same vein as a leatherman; can be used in lots of situations

Or is it a tool in the same vein as a jackhammer; pretty much has only one function

Should we be trying to adapt the watch to our lifestyle and needs, or should we adapt to the lifestyle the watch was made for?

I’ve seen this sitting in cases... and no offense to any owners but I find this Tudor to be awfully hideous . Even tried it on to see if I was missing something. If it ends up being produced in few numbers over a short run, then I’d guess it’s bc nobody was buying it.

That is a big watch! Very different styling - a true tool watch.

There's something so homely and utilitarian about this watch that it makes me love it, but honestly when it was released I thought Tudor was doing a knock-off a Seiko doing a Rolex homage.
