They told me the RM 30 out of no where started getting lots of orders. Probably because it’s similar case size as the 11’s. Not sure if there’s truth to that

I think starting with a RM30 is a great idea. It’s not as tall/clunky as the 11 series and is very comfortable. It’s also not a piece that you’d lose on if you want to get out.

My other suggestion is the 67 series. The 67-02s are tough depending on color, but a 67ti or 67rg won’t be more than a few month wait if at all. They are both sporty and dressy with a super low profile. I’ve personally really migrated in this direction. The 11s seem gigantic after wearing a 67.

Whatever you decide, Id encourage you to give the brand a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I tried the 67... it felt like a girls watch

The 30 has slid under the radar for awhile. I think it’s getting attention now because the 11-03 has become so impossible. Either way, I prefer the size of the 30. I recently added a RG30 and waited about 6 months for it. I prefer it over the 11-03 RG I had just based on weight and size. The height of the 30 makes it preferable to me.

I was also told the same thing, that they now becoming very hard.

I’m surprised you felt that way about the 67!!!!!

The thing that really ended it for me is the prospect of these being Frank Mueller part 2. They’re certainly trendy right now, but I think the prices being strong are a condition of supply manipulation (I don’t think the demand is that deep) and a superheated economy. When either one of those changes, I doubt that these will have much staying power, and I’ve already talked to a few collectors who have been majorly turned-off by RM in the past 2 years for the same reasons I previously specified. Additionally, I would be shocked if other brands didn’t start copying this model (exotic materials, lightweight construction) soon, and actually, some are already getting there. The AP RO Concept is essentially AP’s version of a RM but with much better watchmaking and a more powerful/established brand standing behind it.
You do know that AP manufacture the movements for RM, right?
By their own admission AP has learned a lot from this partnership.

I had no idea! That’s pretty cool! What do they do? Design them and build them? Only one or the other?

I think they own like 10-15%. I forget what the % was

Instead of developing the CODE line. AP could have just bought out RM

Many RM and High End AP movements are done at APRP (AP Renaud and Papi). They design and build the movements I believe.

Yes, and I don't think the movements are objectively bad, but I think they're overpriced for what they are. You're free to disagree -- a lot of people certainly do given the popularity of RM -- but that's my opinion at the moment.

However, I'll admit that I have spent some time over the past few days looking at RM in more detail, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly intrigued despite still believing they're overpriced. I'm probably undervaluing the difficulty of making these movements (and cases) as light and as shock-resistant as they are. I also was likely wrong on the finishing front; I stated that the finishing was worse, but when I went back and looked more closely, it seems that they're just finished in a different manner that is a bit more rugged/sporty but isn't necessarily worse.

To me, though, the latest AP Concept, for example, is way more impressive than the RM Nadal Tourbillon, and it's about half the price. On the lower end, I don't mind the 67-02 -- for $120k, you get an ultra-light, ultra-thin, shock-and-water-resistant watch in a unique material, which I wouldn't say is a "deal," but it's not obscene, especially when you look at grey market prices for Nautiluses.

My biggest hold-up now that I've educated myself better is the trendiness of them. I wouldn't be shocked if they maintained or even built further demand, but I also think there's a solid chance that the bubble pops quite brutally. They just haven't been around long enough to tell, and the designs are so polarizing that I feel that they could fall out of favor at some point if the economy crashes, trends change, something new comes along, etc.

What I'd love would be for AP to release a new Royal Oak line that captures a similar aesthetic to RM's and maintains their lightness, comfort, use of unique materials, and durability. Given the success of RM, I'm a bit surprised they haven't done this yet other than sort of with the concept.

I own multiple pieces of Nautilus and RMs.. IMHO I think the nautilus bubble will burst before RM’s. I don’t see how can a 5711 be worth that much. It’s just a steel watch with simple time n date function. Workmanship is only average considering the market price they are trading at I am comparing them to similarly priced pieces.

It would be for the wife... I’m too scared to wear it in NYC. Vegas maybe
