Paul, I concur. Clearly the manufacture was on notice that the knife could seriously injure someone.

Steve, thankful you made it home. Could have been a lot worse.

Glad you’re home and out of danger.

Would be really concerned with losing consciousness though. Presumably the X-rays and CT ruled out pneumonia and PEs, but maybe see a good cardiologist to get a better trained eye on your cardiac health. Emergency rooms don’t always catch significant issues when presented with EKG data...

Scary story ,but could have ended up with an intercostal drain in the chest or even a thoracotomy in a foreign country .Not the best scenario when sick away from home.

Like other colleagues have suggested ,best to have a thorough check out .
Seems like pulmonary embolism has been excluded .

Just a reminder TO ALL when flying .Pulmonary embolism is a bastard !!
Keep well hydrated/move around often and take at least 300mg of aspirin .(On its own it may not be enough) I take Xarelto 10mg before flying .

Wow. Having experienced bronchitis myself do know how extreme the coughing fits can be, and you were very fortunate.

Good post. I’d give it a star if we did that here.

Glad you are okay Steve I am not too sure about the hospitals in Vietnam but the private hospitals in Thailand weren’t terrible. Sometimes a simple x ray is all you need just to be sure.

Not a bad idea. Just have to make sure there are no risks of bleeding. Ohh and don’t get stabbed after Xarelto

Wow Steve as I was reading I was thinking you were going to say it was a joke, that could have been incredibly serious for you!

I am glad you got back to Oz safe and sound and got stitched up, Happy New Year

My thoughts exactly. Although, if the alternative is medical care in a third world country, maybe that was a better choice.

Thanks guys, kind thoughts are appreciated

Unfortunately, this wasn't the only problem I encountered to my back in the 9 days I spent in Vietnam, I'll post what happened to me in a separate thread (again 100% true).
