Rolex Explorer 39

Have they discontinued this model? (Rolex Explorer I 39mm)?

That's interesting, I think the new ones are too big?

So far it is still available; anyway I believe that in the next couple of years they will update the movement and rename the watch Explorer 41 (probably keeping the case more or less the same size as they did with new OP41).

No. Friend of mine just purchased one at a AD in NYC a couple of weeks ago.

2021 is an anniversary of Explorer II - could be an update for entire Explorer family - or not..

I bet they discontinue in next couple years. Amazing watch. One of last pockets of value in the modern line-up. Seeing less of them through ADs but can get new or like new on the grey market with ease.

I could see them relaunching / updating it but would be amazed if they discontinued, especially with the 70th anniversary of Everest being conquered coming up in 2023.

Ha, I wish! Put my name in at this AD over the summer and they called me the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Black Friday was the first time I was able to make the 4 hour round trip drive to go pick it up so I broke my no shopping on Black Friday rule for this year, but for a good reason! It replaced an OP39 white though and I did decently well on the resale of that one so, that didn’t hurt

I know there’s a fair bit of hype at the moment about the OP39 White but I think you have made the right choice with the Explorer as the Explorer always seems to be an appreciated and sought after watch throughout the decades. Congratulations and enjoy!

Thanks!

Yeah, OP white is a great watch, it really is. But I’m a one watch guy and I missed the contrast of a black dial after a while. It was my first ever white dial watch and I decided they’re just not for me. Future collectibility just isn’t a factor for me.

But great watch to have picked up right before they discontinued it so it all worked out.

Plus, the experience of buying the Exp was a bit nicer as I got to pick it up in person, watch them remove it from the coffin case, and then peal the stickers off myself for the first time so that was fun too.

Starting to think Rolex has cut back the supply of explorers to nothing. I have been waiting months, starting to lose hope

Just got mine from my AD a few weeks ago. Seems like quite a few folks have new Explorers on here. There's no way Rolex would discontinue the Explorer, but I could see them bumping it to 41mm. That's why I was so glad to get one now. I think the 39mm is perfect.

I’ve had the 39mm, short hands, white gold numerals for about 8 years. It’s reliable, durable, versatile and understated, about what other Rolex can you say that??

Thanks I sure hope! I am just waiting it out. They won’t give me any time frame which sucks. I do have prior purchase history which is on my side at least

I totally agree Jack. The Explorer is the ultimate GADA (go anywhere, do anything) watch. I can't put my finger on the magic of the dial layout, but it's beautiful in its simplicity.

Are you waging to get a new model if/when it comes? Then ask yourself, is the newer model going to be better than the old one?
