Hello everybody...got “the call!”

Hello everybody. I’ve been a lurker here but have never owned a Rolex. I’ve got a few nice watches, omega po and such, but always wanted a submariner. I have a baby boy due in March, so I figured it was time. In late October 2020, I was close to an AD and dropped by. The guys at the counter were super friendly and we talked watches, but I told them what I wanted and why. He took my number for “the list,” but I never thought I’d hear anything else. Yesterday out of the blue, I got the call. They said my new submariner was ready for me to pickup at my convenience. The family immediately loaded up and made the 2.5 hour trip to the AD. They treated us like old friends. The owner bought my daughter Starbucks, my pregnant wife received a gift of awesome gold earrings from the owner, and I received my brand new 126610ln. The owner then brought out another Rolex box to present to me. Inside was a fawn skin Rolex bifold wallet. The owner and salesman took pictures with us and showed the details of the watch. It was the best retail experience I have ever had!
I just wanted to give everyone hope that it does happen. I had no prior relationship with the AD. I only had 1 conversation with them and never called again. Now I have a birth year submariner to pass to my son one day. I look forward to being a member of this great forum.

Congrats on the new Sub and especially on the upcoming birth of your son in March! I did the same for both of my boys so indeed it will be a very special watch that one day they’ll enjoy with the sentiment

Thats a great story. Biggest problem is it makes you hungry for more. But thats alright. When you can let's see some pictures from the experience. Again, congrats.

Thanks everybody! I know I’m still in the honeymoon phase, but I think I could sell every other watch I own and be satisfied. Haha
Yesterday was the first time that I was literally shaking when I got to the AD. My wife was actually excited too. I guess it had been building up for a long time. I feel like the other watches I’ve bought, were just to pass the time until now. The extra goodies were a very nice touch, I thought. I’ve read so many horror stories on here about different dealers. I almost didn’t even stop back in October because of everything I had read prior. On the way home, my wife said we would never shop for jewelry at any other place and I agree.

Big congrats to you. Many people own one Rolex- the classic Sub. I have a friend who has been hugely successful in business. He wears only one watch- a black 5 digit Sub date. That’s all he has, and all he needs. It’s nice to hear your story and know you appreciate a special reference. Wear it in good health, and congratulations on your baby!

Congratulations, all around! I'm so glad it worked out and that it was such a happy experience.

Sounds like a great AD, too. That's really how it should be. Back in the day when people went the grey market route to find discounts in cash, not time, those who purchased at "full retail" offered up the "AD experience", and the warranty card. When an AD goes all out, as this one did, it really is a lovely experience.

Enjoy your first Rolex...a Submariner is a wonderful choice and I think this new model is the best of the ceramic bezel lot.

Here's a thought (maybe you've already had it): Wear your Submariner when your son is born. Not only will that watch take on new meaning, perhaps one day you'll give it to your son. Collectors often look for a "birth year" Rolex. What could be better than a birth year Submariner worn by one's father on the day/night of one's birth?

Congratulations and best to you and your family...

What an awesome story! And what a wonderful Rolex shopping experience. Be sure to spread the word about them, get on line and review them everywhere you can and drop them a thank you note. They’ll be most grateful and remember you big-time next time as your Rolex addiction grows.

The plan is to print the pictures from the AD and put them in the box, along with a handwritten letter to my son. He’s in the pictures, but in the form of a big belly. I will wear the watch at his birth and add those pictures to the box also. My idea is to keep adding pictures/memories as the years pass by, and give it all to him at a special time someday. I’ve told several close family members my plans, just in case something happens to me along the way, they can make it all happen. I’ve considered engraving the back. I know if hard times ever do come, an expensive watch could be tempting to sell. What advise can you guys offer to engrave or not?

It’s great to hear an AD treating customers this way. I think sometimes AD do take things for granted since everyone is caught up in the hype.

Thats incredible. The ADs did a fantastic job curating that for you. A memorable experience not just for you, but for your whole family to take in now and for the future.
Tugs at every heartstring.

Congrats OP! Never, ever, sell this watch. You will regret it in the future. If it ever got to that point where you're even considering, I'm sure you'd be looking to sell other things with a higher monetary return.
