Would you like a 36mm and 41mm Explorer for the next generation?

They would be with polar dial and with black dial. I would mount the calibre 3230.

What do you think?

Saw this in a Monochrome e-mail this morning, if Rolex launch a white dial Explorer 1 with the new movement then I will be having a chat with my AD to see if they can get me one, I think it looks great.

The “Refreshed” version 42mm (actual size would probably be 40.5mm) and the “Rest Home” version 38mm (actual size would probably be 36.2mm) ........... no white dial

Don’t like the proportions of the 36mm Explorer 214270 so a new 36mm version 124270 would be welcomed!

I hope they don't go to 41. I'm not a purist by any means and wore a JC DSSD for years, so I'm usually a fan of bigger watches.

The 39mm wears large as it is. The 36 is perfection with anybody with a 7 1/4" wrist or below, anyway.

While I am a fan of the matte black dial, the white does look good, but something about it bothers me. Maybe the lume on the arabics?

I usually like change and welcome it. I've liked the iterations we've seen with the Exp II for years with the ceramic bezel, but the Exp I is something they should leave alone, aesthetically.

Personally, I wouldn’t like a 41mm Explorer. A white dial Explorer, although nice, kind of defeats the purpose as I can’t see any professional picking a hard to read dial over a super legible one. The 36mm would be appealing to some I’m sure, as many are nostalgic, but I don’t think it would appeal to a new generation of watch enthusiasts, thus don’t see it as a good step moving forward. Part of the appeal, I find, of this watch is that it’s a one option proposition.

I, like many, have a hard time finding anything wrong with the current reference. I don’t see those who don’t like the current iteration liking these mock-ups any more (aside from the aforementioned 36mm Explorer fans).

As a tiny wristed person I'd love for the 36mm to return, but the current 39mm is probably ideal for a large proportion of people. By having a 36 and 41 you'd lose that sweet spot.

A 41mm Exp I would be perfect for me and my larger wrist size so thats what I'm hoping for! I know there are a lot of lovers of the 39mm but it's just too small for my wrist.

White dial 36mm is the one watch I hope they make. Seems like they will go to 41 from 39 based on what they did to the OP. Maybe this means they also make a 36?

I saw that article as well, and I have to admit I really like the idea of a polar explorer. I have the 214270 t-rex hands version and I love it. It's such a great watch with its simplicity that I often end up wearing it instead of my BLNR, SD43, or sub.

I'd be calling my AD right away if I thought I could get a polar version, I'd actually probably prefer it over the white daytona I'm still waiting on to be honest - other than the crazy premium you could realize on the daytona if you were a flipper (which I'm not). The polar explorer looks way easier to read than the white daytona as well, so I don't see any issue with legibility.

Concur

The Explorer is my favorite Rolex, but it’s just too small for me at 39mm. 42mm would be perfection ..............

I can see Rolex coming out with a 36/41mm Explorer 1 and making it consistent with the OP line.

Perhaps this is why the white and black OP39 models were discontinued, to make way for new Explorer models?

Personally, I would be very interested in a white Explorer 1, but maybe not at 41mm.

Realistically, the Explorer is no more than an OP with different dial and hand set. It could be integrated into the OP dial choices ..........

I have no interest in a 41. I own a 36mm Explorer but what I would really like to see is a legit 38mm Explorer. The 39 is just a tiny bit too large in my eyes. I think 38 would be perfect.

It makes sense. The discontinuation of OP black and white may be due to what you say.

Reason why I believe they'll make it larger is to accommodate those who have larger wrists and been waiting for the Explorer. As the 36mm already exists I imagine the brands expectation would be to hit the grey/secondhand market if that's your size. Also from a production perspective, I imagine it would be cheaper to manufacture the 41mm case.. as I believe the OP shares the same case?

I would love to see a 36mm explorer... possibly the goldilocks 38mm but I doubt that will happen.

I love my 114270 and I think that 36mm is an excellent size for a field watch.

I don't see how making the Explorer larger than 39mm would make it a better watch.

I think they may leave it exactly as it is and just update the movement.

My opinion is that the new Explorer I will be launched for sure with 41 cases, and most likely this number will not identify the diameter of the case (as per the DJ41 and the OP41). I would expect that the dial / glass of the new model will be 0.3 - 0.5 mm larger than the current Explorer 39.
I think that the possibilities to get a new Explorer I 36 are quite low.
I believe that Rolex will definitely also introduce the white dial, considering that it is no longer available on the new OPs.

A 39mm polar would be very cool. Or a small “41”

Would you like a 36mm and 41mm Explorer for the next generation?

The EX1 is the one Rolex that doesn’t need a facelift, perhaps a newer movement at most.
Perfect size atm. 36 was too small and I’ve got a small wrist and it looked too dainty, 39 is perfect.

A white dial Explorer 1 in either the current 39mm or a 36mm and I’d definitely be interested.

Absolutely. 36mm for the purists, spotting the OP36/DJ36 sized case using 20mm bracelet and "41"mm for those with larger wrists or those who like larger watches spotting OP41/DJ41 sized case that is actually 39.5 which is close to current Explorer size, however this new case will utilize a 21mm bracelet. If they add a polar version it will be even better, however I don't see this happening.
