Cause you did not get it as a status symbol, nor did you get it cause you need the $$, besides if it were worth 40k today how much will it be worth when you can't get at AD anymore... and then add 10years on that... if you need the cash for another investment or opportunity sure. But to sell it and have USD sitting in an account does not make much sense...

Because then I'd have to buy another one back at 40k.

Because i like the watch more than I need the cash. that's why i wouldn't sell.

What would i replace it with? A watch that I want less?

That is about as valid a reason as any. A luxury watch should be a watch you desire to wear and can afford to do so. They say everyone has their price and that is where it gets messy because everyone’s value system is different.

haha yea, it's insane.

I own a steel daytona, and it looks and feels like a $15k watch. no more, no less.

no way in hell I would pay $35k or some stupid number for this watch. You can buy a full PM GMT for that money!!

Actually, I prefer my BLNR to my Daytona. And, after my recent addition - ALS - my Daytona is collecting dust ever since.

I will not sell it since I still enjoy it on some weekends and it is a beautiful watch. But it is insane what's happening in secondary.

Then again, I have a friend that made $1mm profit from buying into stocks like SHOP and TSLA couple of years ago, both of which have gone up 10x past few years. Some crazy times...

Got married in my white Daytona c. So even if I want to sell my wife won’t “let”
Me. She said it’s her favorite in my collection

Food for thought.
I can remember when they were just about double because I wanted one and an AD was asking absolutely double. In those days, they were the only in demand Rolex selling for way over retail. These days so many watches are so in demand. Anyway, my point again, for over 40 plus years never saw Daytona prices retreat. Doesn’t mean it never happened, just means I never saw it.

Used Daytonas used to be available readily around the 10 K Mark. Around 10 years or so ago.
As an aside, David S. W has a brand new Daytona black offered for under $30K.

That Daytona is not worth $33k in a million years.
I don’t care about hype and I don’t care what the number is, I have mine and I’m grateful I was in the right place at the right time and managed to snag one soon after it was announced. BTW, it’s worth exactly whatever someone is willing to pay for it...

That's me. I want hot watches. Look at a platinum daytona 15 months ago and was thinking who the hell would buy this. Today platinum daytona is hot, I want it.

Is the 6263 worth the price it’s going for and the quality is not as good as the newer ones. It is what it is.

Ain't it funny how the gray marketers have no shortage of new product at some big premium over MSRP? How does that happen, do you suppose?

Based on a few youtubes showing behind the scenes many "grays" offer a product without having it on hand. "So sorry buddy that one sold this morning, tell ya what, if that guys wire falls short I will give you a call. Are you sure you are ready to buy cause I am putting you ahead of many other guys an gals that have called after we sold it to this guy.... buyer yes, absolutely yes I would wire you the money right away." Dealer hangs up goes on a few dealer groups ask who has a white Daytona C new with stickers gets it at dealers price tells dealer to get ready to ship. Then guy calls that one customer that really wanted it and says " Man go buy a lotto ticket the wire was a bust, I have this right here. Ready to ship overnight with insurance 35k guy goes wasn't it 32k dealer yeah yesterday... todays price is 35k let me know if you are not serious cause I have a list this thing sells on the next call for sure, buyer then says Wire is on the way..." that is how every dealer has everything all the time... cause even if they don't "have it" they have it you know...

Be precise.

The same reason why you wouldn't cash out of Bitcoin when it hit $20K...as it sits at $52K today. Sky is the limit here- no different than the 5711 so far as I'm concerned.

Fascinating stuff. There's a NOS white dial 116520 with Zenith movement asking for USD$115,950.00. Down the road when the bubble pops there'll be a Wikipedia entry about the circa 2020 luxury watch mania.

Congrats to all those lucky enough to have and enjoy their Daytonas.
To those who don't, schadenfreude is not a healthy emotion.
