New Watch Enthusiast - Is This Rolex Fake?

Hi Guys,

Just got into watches and am looking for my first purchase.

I found this Rolex online, and am not sure if it is fake or not. If it isn't I can get it for a decent price, but I need the piece of mind that it is legitimate.

To my four-month-old watch enthusiast eyes, it looks fake but if its real I don't want to miss the opportunity.

If it is fake, could you tell what identifies it - I'd like to learn! (attached is the image)

Best,

James

Thanks Bigblu10, I was comparing it to others as I was waiting for this to post, and it looks like a child's toy compared to the real deal

Welcome to TRF, James

Rather than note all the telltale red flags, if you will hang out in the WatchOut section the time will be well spent learning some of them.

Frankly, the state of play among fakirs has increased to a degree where some replicas are mind boggling.

Clues.....look at the day and look at the date. Let’s just say they don’t move like that. Do a bit of reading you will pick up a few things

Welcome
Post here before buying.
FYI, the Day/Date is ONLY made in precious metal - does yours look solid 18kt gold or Platinum?
Best

It does help to hang out on a watch forum to learn how to spot authentic watches and the "Watch Out" forum is no exception.

What I would also suggest is to visit an AD periodically and ask to see some watches that interest you.

Besides, building some rapport with the AD, you will have the opportunity to hold, try on, and inspect the authentic pieces.

Stay away from online sales until you have built up some knowledge and confidence in your abilities.

As they say, buy the seller first and then the watch, which is to say, know whom you are dealing with and what their reputations are over the course of many sales.

TRF has a good vetting system for the most trusted of grey market sellers with whom you may consult about possible purchases.
