Pointless question

Just a pointless question that’s been buzzing around in my head the last few days.
Does anyone know how many parts make up a modern sub or gmt.
I’ve been having a bit of a argument with my son. I recon about 120 inc all jewels and screws.

The Rolex marketing materials I’ve seen peg it at around 220 parts. I’m sure someone around here has a photo or can quote from the catalog.

Search Vanessa repair, I remember her recently photographing and posting a watch that has been dismantled, well not Vanessa posting, but the person that she was doing the repair for

I’ve seen reference to 220ish parts for the movement. Then of course dial, hands, clasp, bracelet, etc. And it comes down to how you count parts too. Is the dial one complete part (it is from a replacement perspective) or is it an assemblage of 13 parts or more (dial and 12 markers at least, which it is from a manufacturing perspective). I would guess 275-300 depending on model if we get down to the manufacturing part level.

For starters you could practice counting parts on this.

^Well I count 89 there (comprising the movement). Then, I'd guess another 40 or so, when you include the case, case back, dial, handset, crystal, various seals, bezel assembly parts, and all the bracelet parts. Allowing some cushion for parts I'm sure I didn't think of, I'm going to guess about 150 parts in total.

Under 200 is my guess, based on other models advertising more.

There seems to be quite a difference in some of the estimates 120 to 300.
I don’t think including the bracelet is the way to go. Maybe just the body and movement parts

It's not fully disassembled yet, there's still a few items bolted to main plate.

Mainspring is still in its can.

Balance wheel is still assembled with its spring & microstellas.

It's around 220 parts and most all automatic mechanical movement's made today would have around the same.

IIRC GMT has 255 parts and Zenith Daytona has 410 parts in the movement >200 of which are unique to the Rolex implementation.
