Same here. The pop-in is not good.
We have some friends like us and some with an open door policy. To each their own.

Does anyone here actually clean their own home?

We clean our house on Friday night. We mow, we wash cars. I am looking for a landscaper and would love a cleaner who can do a quarterly deep clean.

The cleaning people come once a month and we try and pick up here and there as we go. I wash our cars and do all landscaping myself though.

We had a nanny during covid and my wife spent the entire time watching her on a camera or reviewing their entire day afterwards on playback. Ridiculous but I understood you just can’t trust anyone even those you personally vetted.

I've had one in the past and occasionally search for a new one. It isn't that I'm unwilling to clean, its just that a true professional does a much better job than I do. The big issue is find the combo of someone you trust and even rarer, someone who does a great job; the two are often exclusive.

If my old one hadn't moved out of state, she'd still have my business.

At 70 we do all our cleaning and maintenance and always have.
We could never justify the expense of having someone do tasks that we are perfectly capable of doing ourselves. We would not want a stranger in our home and to be honest, they wouldn't meet our standards anyhow.
On the occasions that we have to get a Tradesperson we are always disappointed with the sloppy sub-standard work. I feel as though I should have taught myself to do plumbing and electrical decades ago.

We do.

I grew up in a low income home and my wife grew up middle class. That's only pertinent because (perhaps) it therefore seems odd to have someone come and do simple home chores we easily can do. We have our kids help; and I'm certainly wary of having a maid around my children and what message that might send. Everyone has their own balance to strike, but I think it's important to instill a sense of frugality and ability to handle manual work in children.

Money is not the issue. We had a near full-time nanny for 13+ years which itself created dissonance with how we wanted to raise our children and the effect a working nanny has on children in the home. Not sure that was the right decision, but it is what it is...

My wife out sources everything including me, seriously we have a cleaner cleaning a clean house, a laundry man who launders clean clothes and puts them away in the wardrobe, a gardener, a car wash man that often cleans a clean car, a masseuse that comes once a week (she is lovely), oh yeah and a pool guy too. Our door bell goes all day, drives me nuts I guess that's why I hide in the basement with my hobbies. Life is good though, I guess we are spreading the love around.

I do none of those. Although the wife and I do a pretty good job of keeping everything picked up. I can't stand a dirty house.

Cleaning lady comes every Friday for 4 hours (vacuum, mop, dust, clean bathrooms), as do the yard guys. Cars get washed when dirty at the local car wash. Hand wash only on the nice car. We have a deep cleaning crew come twice a year and 2 ladies spend most of the day scrubbing, cleaning baseboards, dusting blinds, etc.

No real incentive to clean when you live in a van down by the river.

Exact same Paul

With a dog that sheds (that wasn't supposed to shed) and two teenagers, it runs every day.

I'll likely need to replace the flooring soon

My wife handles the cleaning of the home and laundry, I take care of the lawn and snow. We are pretty good at handling this ourselves until we can no longer one day.

Yes, unfortunately. I had a cleaning lady for two decades. She was great, no problems ever, and when she couldn't make it she send her sister or daughter. Not long ago they quit out of the blue to go back to their home country. Currently I am left to my own devices with mixed results.

I am a very neat, clean, organized type person, and everything goes back in the proper place after use (thanks mom). I can’t even imagine paying someone to do a lesser quality job than I, just seems like a braggadocios way to waste money. How do people live in a mess except for cleaning day, regardless of means (?) !

I also keep my lawn, can’t even fathom the idea of letting someone touch my cars or motorcycles, perform all vehicle service maintenance, groom my dogs, and get this, IRON my own clothes !

Disclaimer: Single, live an appropriate sized living area, and slightly OCD.

Yes, but sometimes with some "3rd party" help.

In my case I found, that a robot vacuum could do a real great job, mostly with a mop. As a lots of you told, you also use such devices, so I wish to ask you, which one do you prefer? For example I use the Xiaomi Mop Pro 2, and I'm very satisfied with it. +1: I use also Dyson Air Purifiers. These systems in together makes my home very clean compared to such ancient times, when I haven't used such units :)
