Anyone watch the 50 years Beatles Grammy special?
Ringo Star was sporting the aquanaut... I do not know why a lot of people are knocking the 5167 down as a entry level patek and telling people NOT to buy them. I think ringo can afford more then a "entry level" patek but he still sports one.. I also belive is old band mate sir Paul also has one, so if it, is good enough for the Beatles it should be good enough for 99% of people out there..

I think the 5167 is a great option especially during the Summer on a tropical strap.... it's lite and extremely comfortable.

there is no such thing as an entry level patek IMO
There is simply a patek that fits different people and the 5167 is a fantastic watch for a person that does not want to worry about a delicate movement of a very complicated watch who wants something casual yet sporty and a watch that is feather light and truly disappears from ones mind when wearing it. I love the 5167 and know many collectors with million dollar collections that wear their 5167 more than any other watch in their collection |

And John Lennon had a 2499J.
Somebody needs to check with Eric Clapton and see if his mate George also had a Patek. Eric and George had a lot in common and enjoyed the same things. They even swapped wives/girlfriends. So perhaps they also shared a love of Patek. |

the 5167 is the perfect watch that can be worn in any scenario.
The display is very easy to read, its extremely comfortable to wear, and is a based on a proprietary Patek design. I think all Patek fans should have one. |

Joe Walsh, Dave Grohl and Gary Clark Jr were amazing with While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Hope Carl sees it.

Wristwatches are a personal taste, while an Aquanaut is good enough for a music star or a billionaire doesn't mean it's good enough for me. It's not something one can generalise. |

Maybe the term "entry" should be substituted for "gateway."

i actually don't understand the term entry level? I have wanted a Patek since 1990, i never purchased one because i couldnt justify the price for a watch on a leather strap that would prohibit my wearing it in most situations...in other words, it was too much money for me to only get to enjoy it occasionally. As a reference, the daily cost of my first rolex, a TT Sub purchased in 1991, was 68 cents per day worn, this i can justify Not until the Aqaunaut has there been a patek that would fit my lifestyle, ie i didnt choose it because it was an entry level, i chose it because it was the only choice (nautillus previously had never been on my radar) There are other Pateks that interest me but i dont consider them replacements for the aquanaut, i consider them additions to. Perhaps, like Ian said "Gateway" is a better name Ps just realized, Ringo appears to be wearing a 5065 aquanaut. |

I own several Patek and several Rolex watches. In fact I am wearing a 5167 right now.
The 5167 is not an entry level Patek. It is not a gateway Patek. It's just a unique watch. Every watch is pretty unique. Some, more so than others. It may have a simple movement but I wouldn't call it robust or necessarily a sports watch. It does look sporty though. I can understand why it has become so popular. I didn't like it initially. And then it grew on me. I was on my way to the gym one evening and was walking past an AD and on a lark, went in. Yada Yada Yada. I missed my workout that day. In fact my first TRF post was about a day before that enquiring about how tough the watch was. Some of you hadn't a chance to reply yet because it just sucked me in. I think it looks nice. Well balanced. Clean. It feels light and comfortable like you are not even wearing a watch. It is versatile and I have worn it for all occasions except with a dinner jacket. And it is pretty unrecognizable. Nobody really looks twice at it except me. I look at it all day long. There are plenty of reasons why this watch isn't for everybody. Expensive basic watch on a piece of rubber. Looks like a Timex. Lots of people can't see themselves owning a 5167. I can't see myself owning a gold or two-tone Rolex. I really fancy Kate Upton. Some people can't stand her. C'est la vie. |
