5960p discontinued?

Hey guys,
So I just want to confirm that if the 5960p has been discontinued?
It is a gorgeous piece and it would be a shame
And if this is true, do you guys see the price of it to go up?

I think it's been discontinued for a little while now so yes, news are indeed official. As for the price, I'm afraid it's too early to tell, I think we'll have to wait a few years to really see how it goes.

Supposedly some guy in Taiwan hoarding 50+ 5960s in hope for a day like this. But right now the prices are not good (but good if you looking to buy).

do you think that the patek chronos that have been discontinued is because there were issues with the movement?

I don't think 5960 is doing very well compared to other models. I often see ADs displaying their stocks here.

I don't think so. The 5980 is still being made in gold and steel/ gold versions.

Nothing to do with the movement - Patek will be launching a number of new references this year and these models have been discontinued to allow for this.

definitely not! I have had my 5960 for over 5 years and have never had an issue or heard of an issue.

Won't be a collectors piece. Too much supply.

Hi, how many 5960's do you think they made roughly?

Maybe 2x the amount of 5070s?

Thanks

A lot. My AD was getting 1 a month. 500 doors globally. MY AD is a top 5 volume dealer in US. So let's say on average a dealer got 8 a year. That is 4000 per year. I am betting more. How many years were they produced?

There are a lot of 5960s at ADs. My local AD had 3 of them the last time I was there. It is a lovely piece and I would get one if I had the money.

I believe 2006
In the Watchtime magazine that year they interviewed P Stern and I think when asked about supply he said that "we are not talking about a 1000 pieces"

But I'm not sure if he was talking about that initial year or not.

I agree with your comments.

I heard it was an oversupply issue as well. It's a nice watch. I like it, especially the blue dial platinum. It's a nice self winding annual calendar chrono with a $90,000 MSRP. Do you buy this or a classic perpetual calendar chrono 3970 or pre-botched tachy dial 5270 for a little more money? Grey dealers are selling the 5960 for low $60.

Oversupply may be an issue with the grey face, and to an extent the blue face, but I find it hard to believe it's the case with the black face - it was announced in early 2013 and discontinued the same year. Who knows how many, but a few hundred at most? But then I am biased, so no need to listen to me!

According to my AD in Taiwan Patek only stopping the grey and the blue face, black will still be produced. But another AD told me they are not sure what Patek will do with 5960, so.......guess thats not helping lol.

Curious - 3 separate dealers told me all variants (including R) finished.

I guess we'll find out soon enough. I thought that since the 5980 was also discontinued that maybe there was going to be a movement update for both of these.

I miss mine, patiently awaiting for my original grey dial to return!

I think they will bring great value down the line, it was a bold piece for pateks with many firsts.
