5167 or 116500 which is harder to get

Just picked up a 5990 and I normally have a rule of one in one out and so far it’s between these two. Decision was pretty easy for me which was to sell the Rolex Daytona black dial. Does anyone think otherwise? I’d think if I ever wanted it again in the future would be easier to get than a 5167 ? Any thoughts? 90% already made up my mind but am kind of curious to see if people think it’s harder to get a ceramic Daytona or a 5167 from an ad at msrp.

I traded in one for 5167 a while back, don't miss it all. Was never that easy to read time with glare etc and Patek on another level. The 5167 would complement 5990 when you want something bit more casual. I also find date feature more useful than chronograph with screwed down pushers I never use. In HK, aquanaut going for around 220k HKD or more on grey market these days, harder to acquire now.

I would find it much easier to get a 5167, but will depend on your AD relationships.

I'd say the D500 is harder to get.

I’d say let d500 go, not even at the level as 5167, and yes 5167 is harder to get

Depends on whom you have a better relationship with. I’d say sell the D500 because maybe Patek drops the 5167 for a 5168A at some point.

agree on the 5167, i thought they might have done it this year at basel, but to add another 42 mm shows they are trying to go bigger on that range

Agreed. For every one person who walks into an AD looking for an Aquanaut, ten walk in asking for a Daytona.

That is true but there are probably 500 5167a's made per year compared to the 50,000+ daytonas

Said goodbye to the Daytona. Decision was pretty easy to me at least. Saying hello to a 5990 and goodbye to a Daytona (over a 5167).

In general 116500 is going to be harder to get, especially the white 116500 .

It depends, for me the 116500 is pretty much harder to find. Different choices for different people. Just get rid of the one you appreciate the least.

Well....last time I mentioned 116500's for friends (since I already have one) to my dealers.....I can see them trying not to laugh while telling me in the politest way possible that they're very difficult to allocate without recent significant purchases.....and I've been offered Aquanauts regularly meanwhile......I'd say definitely the Daytona is harder to get in today's market.

Don't know which one is harder to get, which shouldn't be the criteria to decided which one to go either. But my suggestion is to keep the 5167.

Think you made a good choice OP as yours was the black dial D500, at east IMO. If you had to have that same D500 configuration again in the future, will not be as difficult to get as the white dial. Congrats on the 5990!

Should keep them both. Next year this time you’ll regret selling either piece.

Sounds like you could start a nice little side business if you're being offered Aquanauts on a regular basis. Did your AD forget you said you're not interested the first time around? My Patek AD is getting exactly two 5167s this year. My Rolex AD will be receiving far more Daytonas.

I get offered many watches that are at a premium in the secondary market. I either buy if I like it or pass usually. I don't move a lot of watches in my collection usually heh. I think my ADs appreciate that I'm not some grey seller in disguise.

Just seems odd that they’d offer you the same watch on a regular basis.

Maybe there's some misunderstanding.... I'm talking multiple dealers. But I did get offered a 5726a multiple times from one same AD.... Probably trying to see if he can get me off the 5711 list hah.

Based on my experiences the 5167 is more difficult to acquire currently.

The D500 sells £10,000 above msrp on the gray market, the 5167A £13,000 above msrp.

Accordingly, the Patek is harder to get. £3,000 harder to be precise.

Love the man maths.

Did you do the same sums using MSRP as the baseline?

No offense, but - as Russell996 indicated - GBP amounts above MSRP are meaningless w/o relating them to MSRP itself. If anything you should compare the percentages these watches trade above MSRP.

Back to the question. I haven't spoken to my Rolex and Patek AD for a few months but the 116500 has always been much, much harder to get there than the 5167.
