i once lusted for the 6000 but found the dial a mess and the watch too small.. in real life it is very bland

I love these dress watches...

some of manually wound so you'd 'bond' with your watch in a new way... bear in mind the golden ellipse doesn't have a sapphire caseback which is a shame..

5124 gondolo

5738 golden ellipse

3738 golden ellipse

5227

Puffy- I've read your posts about the 6000, I knew you weren't keen but I was really drawn to it and was quite surprised how much dislike there is for it.
I have to say though I am realising I want something a bit more classic. As much as the 5227 is a lovely looking watch is it not getting a bit big? Fair enough if there were a complication but is the face not going to look a bit bare?

I prefer the 39mm size but if its too big for you how about the 37mm 5127?

I think it's 5196>5296>5127 in my mind at the moment, all white gold.

Well I tried the 6000, 5227 and 5196.
Puffy- you were right the 6000 was very underwhelming. I put it on but I could see as soon as I picked it up it wasn't for me.
The 5227 was just too big, not what I was looking for. Very beautiful watch but not for me. The 5196 is spot on but I was only able to try it in WG which is no doubt what I'd go for but at the same time I would like to see it in RG or YG before I commit, I also wouldn't mind checking out the 5296. There is going to be a patek event at my AD in 3 weeks, so we ll see then.
I'm still checking pre owned too. I've bought from AD on all my watches so far but it seems significant savings can be made going pre owned.

I can't choose between 5738 and 5227.

How about a 5134. Same calatrava shape/styling plus an interesting travel time complication. Pricing is not much more than a calatrava, and having even a small complication makes it a little more special.

Well the 5196 didn't last long. I was really longing for a complication.

5196 and LV gone, in with the 5146g.

I now have the ultimate 3 for me- rolex 14060 daily wear, pp 5167 weekender and 5164 smart weekender. Perfect combination.

Very nice, I must admit I love the 5119, a colleague has one and they make a lovely dress up/down watch.

There is no Calatrave I don't like.
