My choice was the white dial Milgauss. It’s more interesting than the OP and less common. I for one like the second hand. It’s very comfortable on my wrist.

Just in time to make the top of page two. IMHO the Milgauss has been in high demand in the past and is a specialized watch with the added shield for field protection. I'd get it before it also becomes unobtainable; it's pretty unlikely that the OP will become hard to get.

Personal preference, but I’d rather an Explorer over DJ all day. I’d add that first and white OP next. Or the other way around.

I read in amusement how some comments are how rare or sought after a certain watch is now or in the future. Whatever happened to buying a watch because one would enjoy wearing it? Isn’t that the reason to buy a watch in the first place?

I love to hear folks disparage the Milgauss, it makes me love mine even more. But, I'm a weirdo and like quirky things.

Obviously, I vote Z-Blue.

I would go with OP 39 for the clean look. Also look into explorer I 39 as well !

OP39! Goes with everything and is a great size. Then again I'm in the minority about the MG. Can't stand the tinted crystal.

Maybe I can help since I have the white OP39, Black OP39 and a Black Milgauss GV.

The Milgauss was my first Rolex because I LOVED the green crystal. Something about it just made me smile every time I looked at it. But, I am super anal about matching my attire and I found the Milgauss very limiting (for me).

So I added the OP39 white and it is by far my favorite watch. Timeless and goes with everything. Of course, because I am an addict, I then added the black dial OP39 which I love as well.

If I had to personally rank them I would go

1. White OP39
2. Black OP39
3. Black Milgauss GV

That is mainly for versatility, look and feel. All are great watches. The Milgauss does wear a little bigger and is flashier with the polished center links. I’ve received my fair share of comments on it, if that is something you are looking for.

As many here always say, but the one that “sings” to you. You can always switch or add later

I have the the black dial GV Milgauss, and can tell you that despite what many think, it is plenty versatile. I wear it most days, and it dresses up and down very well. In most lighting the green tint is subtle, and it simply looks like a black dial watch (with a little something special.) I've yet to find an outfit that it straight up clashes with. Also, I don't think I've seen anyone yet mention the fliplock clasp, but that is definitely a trait that the Milgauss has over the OP. That 5mm of microadjustment can make a world of difference if you have a wrist that tends to expand and contract depending on the climate.

The only potential issue with the Milgauss that I think bears forewarning is the weight. Due to the faraday cage it is quite top heavy. You do get used to it, but comparatively speaking it's amongst the heaviest SS watches in the Rolex line. Some people love the substantial feeling on the wrist, but others prefer their watches so lightweight that they forget it's there. You won't forget that the Milgauss is strapped to your wrist.

All of that said, I really don't think you can go wrong here. Buy the one that keeps you up at night.

That white OP looks amazing..... I bought mine before they released the white and black faces for it. The Milgauss has a very unique look IMO and I am curious in the coming weeks if we hear any news from Rolex at Basel if they modify the Milgauss and what that would do to the current models. Talking to the local AD he seemed to think that they might release a new version but who knows. Get what you enjoy regardless!

I went through the same thing awhile back and this was my choice. Can't go wrong with either though.

I only plan on adding to the collection every couple years so I'll be "stuck" with the first Rolex. AND it's possible that the Milgauss is going to be discontinued a lot sooner than the OP39. Ideally I would get the OP39 then in 2-3 years pick up the Milgauss but who knows about its availability.

Thanks for your input!
I'd go Z-Blue (and I own one) but the more conservative choice is the OP39.

The 114300's can be had for hundreds if not thousands less than similar condition and age Milgauss watches. It's an easy choice. Unless you drool over a Mil, then get the Mil. You live once, spend it on what really moves you. You can always sell or trade back for the OP if you're wrong about it.

The Milgauss actually has quite an interesting history so knows exactly what it wants to be and where it fits in. I echo the view that most Rolex watches are versatile. I personally prefer the Milgauss over the OP, I think it has more charm.

No wrong answer here. All beautiful. All versatile. I would absolutely take a good look in person and see which one sings to you. I would definitely include the Explorer in the conversation too. All of these watches are available.

Here’s some pics of my first ever Rolex....because this thread needs more pictures! Happy hunting!

Great feedback Mike! I found the Milgauss to be quite comfortable. Not quite as comfortable as my Explorer II, but close. I'm definitely one who uses the EZ Link extension every day.
