I wouldn't ask the question, and wouldn't say yes if asked.

Absolutely would be very cautious elsewhere (most public situations) but there are scenarios that a few on the thread had mentioned that I would consider (on a plane, small gathering, etc.), as long as it was with like-minded people, as you mentioned. OP wasn't very clear regarding the situation he had in mind but there are always exceptions which I didn't see come across in this thread that might be helpful for the OP to understand, hence my comment about the tough crowd.

That is a ridiculous request. Would you hand over $10k, $20K, $30K+ for “someone” to try and hold to see what it feels like?

Please!

A stranger once asked me to try on my platinum daytona at an airport a few years ago. As soon as I gave them my watch to try on the guy ran away and I could never find him again.

Nope.

I don’t think that’s a reasonable thing for a stranger to ask.

Paul_I Thanks so much. I live in Seattle, WA. If you have these two (esp the SD43), I would love to buy you a drink and ask opinions. I am definitely a noobster in Rolex world and on this forum (I bet you can tell).
If we happens to live nearby, I will ensure to sit in the most corner of the bar, chain my legs on the table, you can even point a gun to my head while I am trying your SD43. Thanks folks for the inspirations!

I first fell in love with the SD43, but after reading many threads of this forum, I feel that it's not for my 6.5" wrist. So I really want to try SD43 to make sure I can pass it on.

I've let a few friends try mine on. They were curious. GF likes to wear it around sometimes. Stranger? No way.

This actually reminded me of the time I let a friend wear my Sub to his finance job for about a week. It made him so happy.

Maybe if you were in a watch store... with a security guard at the door... and then asked a fellow shopper if you could check out his/her watch...

I was at an AD in NYC and asked about a No-Date Sub. I've never tried one on and all they had was a Smurf (diff. weight from SS). The president at the store grabbed his personal piece (Date) from his office and let me try it on -- really cool of him.

No way. One second the stranger seems like a reasonable person, the next second he is off with my Rolex.

I’m always willing to talk about watches, within reason. Call me skeptical, but some sketchy chap wanting to talk about my watch in a dark parking lot would be well outside of reason. As far as letting a stranger try on my watch, that would be, no. My oldest has asked to wear my Air King to prom, and that is still very much under consideration...and I kinda like the kid.
