Generic vs Genuine sapphire crystal parts?
Hi guys,
I’ve decided to take in my submariner to repair a scratch on the glass. What are your thoughts on generic sapphire crystal vs genuine crystal? |

if you put non OEM parts on your watch, Rolex won't touch it. If they do its all getting replaced anyway.
If you pay to have a Rolex, then pay to put Rolex parts on it IMO

Geniune all the way assuming you have a cyclops. You could get away with generic for non-cyclops models but it’s never really the same and you’d be missing the laser etched crown at 6 o’clock on modern Rolex models.

Your crystal is integral to the waterproofness of your watch and is relatively inexpensive even if sourced from Rolex. I would never stray from OEM.

Genuine crystals are relatively cheap, why even take a risk?

Generic vs Genuine sapphire crystal parts?
It’s not worth the small cost savings to use a generic.
Add to that - the long-term loss in resale value you would experience by having a fake part on the Sub if you ever sell it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

An independent watch repairer (which they are connected with a reputable vintage watch store) said that they can replace the glass with a genuine glass. I wonder how true this is?
