Generic vs Genuine sapphire crystal parts?

Hi guys,

I’ve decided to take in my submariner to repair a scratch on the glass. What are your thoughts on generic sapphire crystal vs genuine crystal?

if you put non OEM parts on your watch, Rolex won't touch it. If they do its all getting replaced anyway.

If you pay to have a Rolex, then pay to put Rolex parts on it IMO

Geniune all the way assuming you have a cyclops. You could get away with generic for non-cyclops models but it’s never really the same and you’d be missing the laser etched crown at 6 o’clock on modern Rolex models.

Your crystal is integral to the waterproofness of your watch and is relatively inexpensive even if sourced from Rolex. I would never stray from OEM.

Genuine crystals are relatively cheap, why even take a risk?

Generic vs Genuine sapphire crystal parts?

It’s not worth the small cost savings to use a generic.

Add to that - the long-term loss in resale value you would experience by having a fake part on the Sub if you ever sell it.

An independent watch repairer (which they are connected with a reputable vintage watch store) said that they can replace the glass with a genuine glass. I wonder how true this is?
