go with what you like...my preference has always been heavier watches. for some reason, i like to feel them on my wrist. that said...i would take a deep sea. less than MSRP doesn't really mean much if the watch is not one that you feel you will enjoy long term. my 2 cents.

I have both DSSD and white dial Daytona and although I love the Daytona it does wear smaller than its 40mm size- and I found the black dial to wear smaller than the white- and its not as legible, and there is no date, and the steel bezel does scratch, but if I had to choose I would keep my DSSD

Tally.... Those are the 2 Rolex watches I currently have. I'm a bigger guy too
and feel more comfortable when wearing my DSSD. (It gets more wear than my Daytona). Go with the DSSD for your 1st Rolex!

DSSD is a very deep watch and quite heavy, I had one for 30 days and returned it as it was very uncomfortable to wear for long periods and I have 8 1/2" wrists. lovely watches both of them though

I'd go for the DSSD if it were me.

Good luck!

Why consider a watch that you don't like just because it's cheap?

the daytona is strange for me. i love it in print, i love it on other people, i love it in the display case, i just don't love it on my wrist. I like the watch and it would make it into my rotation, but i just don't love it. it's almost like somebody else's girl---perfect for him, but not me but i still want her. it really bothers me because i am very practical when it comes to spending money, but for some reason this watch has gotten under my skin and i want it for no particular reason. I think i'll take friend's advice for most situations and just lie down and let the feeling pass.

Tallybeard,

The DSSD sound perfect for you but there is no "Resizing to fit wife" scenario with that model. It is a BEAST that doesn't look good on women. With too many links removed it looks like a joke and without the links removed it will flop around on the wrist like a dead halibut.

If you can tolerate the smaller size of the Daytona for yourself, that certainly is an attractive watch for the wife in the years to come.
