Ouch

Stupid me actually tried using the chronograph on this thing on the first wear after having it in the bank vault for the last while. It now only resets to 2.

I'm 18 months out of warranty on this one, so looks like it's going to be an expensive repair? It keeps time fine, but to get it fixed it probably will need a full service?

Try this:
Unscrew the crown completely and hit the chronograph reset button.

ROC service is £800 or so, so not the end of the world.

I was faced with this problem on my 44mm roo too. Here's what I did to revive it. Wind it up around 15 rounds and if it works, then start the Chronograph and let it run for 1 minute and stop it then reset it. Keep trying until it goes back to 12 o clock position.

Well, the good news is the chrono runs fine. Unfortunately, no matter how many start/stops I've tried (even with the crown out), the chrono hand will not move back to the 12 o'clock position. In fact, the hand has now moved further to the right (now at 5 instead of 2).

What seems to be happening now, is that the chrono hand is resetting to the right by half a second each time I keep resetting the chrono. So if I reset it two more times, the hand will end up at 6 instead of 5. I'm scared to do any more resets on the chrono in case I totally fuark it up.

Oh well, it's Saturday night - time to drink away my sorrows.

Last time I asked, a ROC service here in Canada runs at CAD$1800 plus taxes, which is £1270, which stings a bit more than £800!

I didn't know a ROC service would be that costly! Thanks for your very benevolent offer though!

But once I get it back to 12, then I should stop using the chrono?

What I can do in theory is run the chrono hand to the 12 position, stop the chrono hand and not reset it. Wear it as is with a non-functioning chrono. No one will be the wiser.

Let the chrono run for one minute, and make sure to stop with the seconds hand at :00, then try a reset? Play with stopping between :59 and :01

Good luck!

Correct. A chronograph costs more than a time/date watch. ROC service is 1350CHF or 1736 CAD. A Regular Royal Oak is 900CHF which is actually less than £800, its £721.

Sorry that it seemed to have broken.

Except if you often need a chrono, never used mine when had some except for boiled eggs and pasta, I wouldn't bother, just put back at 12 and then when it goes for a service ask them to see about it

thats solid advice. When my RG 44 broke, it was the chronograph that was causing the issues not the rest of the watch. If i didn't use the chronograph the watch worked fine. Had it not been under warranty, i probably would have just waited until i was closer to regular service time to take care of it as i rarely use the chronograph anyway.

Yes, that's about right, the RO was £700 and then something else was £800 and the Offshore was £1200, so I just put the ROC in there without thinking but it belongs in the chrono category ofc.

If you don't use the chrono then you might as well run it to 12 and stop it, and then only you will know, if that works for you.

Another vote for stopping the chrono seconds hand at 12 and forgetting about the issue until service time!

Having a slightly offset chrono minute hand is easier to ignore than an offset second hand....still utterly galling that this happened not that far out of warranty

Yeah it's disappointing, but I got such a smoking deal on it last year I'm not too shattered that she'll need a spa trip.

Huge kudos to a TRF member who stepped in and made my day. May all the best karma be with you!

Why not keep the chrono running continously as a normal seconds hand?

That seem to satisfy my OCD than just stopping the seconds at 12....

This kind of issues that keep me away from chronograph watches. I think if I ever get the ceramic Daytona, that will be my one and only chronograph

She's back from a full service and refinish!

Again, much thanks to a very kind and helpful gentleman here who helped me lessen the sting of a full service and get it back in lightning fast time!

congrats, that is about fastest turnaround time i have ever seen. My service experience was a disaster, but I'm getting a trip to Le Brassus out of it so I'm happy too

Beautiful! Looks sharp again. Crazy fast turnaround. Did you send it to Ottawa or Clearwater?

It went to Ottawa. From what I can see, they did a top notch job, every bit as good as Clearwater. They did an incredible job of removing some pretty deep scratches without impacting the sharp angles.

In fact, Clearwater is now referring Canadian owners to Ottawa (I asked Clearwater), and Canadian ADs are also sending them to Ottawa too. I was skeptical at first since Clearwater gets such a good reputation, but Ottawa SWS now has my vote of confidence.

Yep, the brown square service case was included. Same as the one handed out by boutiques.

As much as I love this piece, it will be going to a new home soon - there's a new incoming later this week.

I highly doubt if there was actually something wrong with the chrono mechanism. I'd say it's more likely that the hand/bush did not have enough friction on the secondscounter pivot-end. Which makes it slip and change position if it resets, due to the force.

Congrats! You clearly won't need that 15202 any more. Send it down here
