Rolex Datejust in 28mm or 31mm

Hi, i’m about to purchase my first Rolex but can’t decide whether i should get the 28mm or 31mm in gold jubilee 10 diamonds face. I have a 14cm (5.5in) flat wrist. My review after reading so many forums:

28mm:
Classic
Looks great with the diamond markers as they look closer together
Like jewelry
More dressy
Lighter

31mm:
More popular
Bigger the better (as eyesight becomes poorer as u age)
Current trend
Looks great with roman dials (more spaced out)
Small price difference for a stepup in size

I feel like the 28mm would suit me better but don’t want to regret thinking i should have stepped up and buy the 31mm!
Your kind reviews are greatly appreciated. Pics as attached when I tried on 28mm n 31mm sizes.

31mm for sure.
Also, try one that has another dial, not mop. The diamond markers kind of get lost on that background.

I think 31 is perfect for you. 28 looks too small.

You answered your own question. You think 28 would suit you better, then go for it. It is a very minimal difference. You should buy what comforts you the best.

28mm is classy and suits your wrist. There are other dials with diamonds. For example this one.

I went through the same conundrum. I ended up buying a 28mm and regretted it later. In my case the dial was too small to read the time/date (aging eyes). However, I do think the 28mm looks classier during dressier occasions.

28 looks small even in these close ups which make everything look bigger. go with 31

given your youth and the fact that the white MOP example is one of the very best examples you will ever find anywhere.
I'm with the others that say go for the 31.
You could easily wear both though, and i believe I would be torn between both examples if I were in your position.

Consider this.
The fashion trend is for a larger watch than one would've normally expected in the past. So the 31 wins there by a very small margin in practical sizing for a daily wearer watch.
Besides, you may wish to pick up something for more dressy occasions later on so that leaves you better placed to go for a slightly smaller watch(28) to fill that position in a very stunning but small collection.
IMO, definately the 31 hands down for a one watch collection on your wrist as another way of looking at it

Let us know what you decide

Ageed
That's another pertinent perspective.
Definately the 31 for a more versatile watch overall.
And the 28 sizing for more dressy occassions on her wrist

Both nice pieces and both look good. You won’t really make a bad choice with either. If I had to pick I’d say 28mm.

My GF has a similar wrist size and while she tried the 28 it looked a tad small based upon todays watch trends. She went with 31 and is very happy. Good luck choosing, both look fantastic

She went for white dial with roman, it suits all attire and isn’t too outlandish like MOP or some of the other variants.

Another vote for 31mm. I am not a fan of roman's on small dials.

Went to the dealer again to compare the sizes. Finally decided on the 31mm gold dial with 10 diamonds. Unfortunately it’s out of stock!! What a bummer... now i’ve gotta wait... hope they will restock soon... thanks everyone for the great feedback. Really appreciate it!

Some photos of the comparison.. 28mm is in the gold 10 diamonds, the rest are 31mm 🥰 but not in the design i wanted

That 31mm w/ diamonds will look great! (Perhaps there's a reason it's out of stock! ) Worth the wait.

Good decision to try both sizes again in person.
Lovely watch and I think the diamonds will benefit from the larger dial size.

As others have suggested, if you decide to add a dress watch this opens up the possibility of a 28mm time only piece,

Please post a picture of your watch once it arrives.

Congratulations!

Great pictures! Nice to see in a thread asking for advice on how a watch presents on the wrist (vs. the threads that usually show one close-up of the watch on the wrist).

Size wise, the 31mm size wears very well on you, and is probably the way to go for a daily-wear. I agree, the 10 diamonds with the fluted bezel in 31mm is a great choice (I don't really care for the diamond bezel model you are showing here).

As others above have said the 28mm looks like a good dress watch (or dressier watch) size for you.

Wonder what did the OP chose eventually. My partner prefers 28mm because she always wanted a smaller watch after trying the 31mm..

I think your analysis is accurate. The 28 is more like jewelry that tells time, and 31 like a timepiece with a jewelry-like feel. Neither is better than the other…it comes down to what you prefer. Since you mention that the 28 would suit you better, that’s what I’d suggest getting. It looks great on you. Best wishes
