Thoughts on Fortis watches

Curious to get opinions on Fortis watches. Anyone have any experience with them? Build quality, movements etc... I recently came across the Fortis Watch Cosmonautis Classic Steel Limited Edition and think it looks pretty awesome! https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collec...n-401-21-72-mb

I always thought they looked good, and certainly legible.

A few years back I came across a small jeweller who had them in stock.

I have to say I was very underwhelmed.

While they looked fine, they didn’t feel good. The cases seemed to be very lightly constructed and overall the things felt quite cheap.

At the time, and still now, you could get some very good quality watches from lesser known makers such as Orfina and Glycine that are in a different league quality wise to the Fortis that I handled.

They might have upped their game since then, but I wouldn’t buy without seeing and handling first!

I've owned two, from around the 1990s/early-2000s, so my observations are not on the newer range, although I doubt much has changed. The company has been around in one form or another for just over 100 years. They have well built solid watches, which are substantial, especially when steel and fitted with a bracelet. They have industry standard third-party movements inside, so reliable too. In general, they are pretty good value for money.

I had one years ago, a big chunky white-dial chrono with blue skeleton hands. Some models are super-cool, and built like tanks. They also have a connection to the Russian space program, so there's some interesting history there too.

The problem I had with the watch ultimately was quality control and the warranty work, which was handled by a horrible third-party company, in the U.S. anyway. Big turn off. I believe all warranty work is now handled by Watchbuys, which was not the case when I owned mine.

Yup, they're under new ownership now! I'm curious to see what they have brewing.

But historically they've made well built watches!
