Opinions wanted on Vintage GMT

Good Morning,

I have been looking for a vintage GMT and came across this one that a contact of mine was wearing. He said he bought it new and has never been serviced or polished. I highly respect everyone’s opinion and would like some feedback on whether it has been polished, correct parts, value, any other concerns I may be overlooking.

Thanks in advance!

N

Well it’s a 16710. for sure the glass has been serviced with a non authentic sapphire glass, there is no cyclops. Does it the lume glow still?

It is not vintage at all.

It is post 2000 and has had both a crystal and bezel change, so, whatever else your friend has said is suspect.

I own an older GMT and the crystal on that watch is missing the Cyclops. Which indicates the crystal has been changed and it may be a aftermarket. No big deal, but it might indicate the watch has been serviced. Need more pictures of the case sides case back and bracelet.

Thanks for the feedback so far! I am waiting on more pictures.

I have only seen the watch once in person and it was very briefly. He says he has boxes and papers, but the missing cyclops is concerning.

Why do you thing the bezel was replaced?

Anyone want to put a value number on this watch, if the boxes and papers match?

There nothing to be alarmed about the crystal. Some people just prefer the clean look of non-cyclops crystal on the GMTs. I have the T38s on my 1675 and 16750 as well.

This is obviously a 16710 GMT; the bezel insert is correct IMHO. It's just faded.

If he says that he has the original paper and accessories, make sure the serial number on the watch matches with what's on the paper and tag.

Lastly, it's a 16710 circa 2000's, so the movement is a 3175 caliber. Open the back, and verify.

There’s nothing inherently “wrong” with this watch. See if he has any service papers to account for the crystal. If all the numbers match it’s just a question of his asking price.

I finally got more photos. See them attached. When I met with him he said the watch was serviced locally. If I move forward I am going to have it serviced and the braclet repaired. The clasp was bent.

What do you guys think it is worth?

These are pretty common on the market, maybe check some recent auction sales using the eBay advanced search feature, accounting for variations in condition, box & papers, etc.

People say that the crystal has been changed for sure because it doesn't have a cyclops - but as far as I know cyclops is glued to the glass and some people remove it with heat etc. so no cyclops doesn't always mean the watch was serviced - it can mean it was modified by the previous owner without replacing.

From the pics it looks ok.

But it isn't "vintage".

If you want it, tell him you will go with him to a couple local dealers and you will give him $500 more than what they will offer him.

You get a great price and he gets more than if he sold it. Everybody wins. It will also be authenticated too so you won't have to worry.

Lastly, its not an old watch, and you say its been serviced, so why would you service it again? If its running ok don't service it, waste of money.
