I don't really time my watches for exact +/- seconds per day, or else if it's a second or two beyond COSC it might bug me.

In general, as long as it's not more than a minute off within a week, I'm good. I would rarely ever wear the same watch for a week straight anyways.

I have to say though, sometimes it is satisfying to pick up my Grand Seiko Quartz watch after a month of not wearing it and having it still dead on to the second.

The person that told you that +/- 1.5 seconds/day is unacceptable obviously doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. That's saying that it would take close to 40 days (over a month!) to lose or gain a minute. This isn't a quartz watch... You're going to always lose or gain some time, but 1.5 seconds isn't even close to the point of concern. I'd say 4 seconds would be the minimum for where you should begin to worry.

My SD4K is about 5 seconds off. It's going in next week to be regulated.

I use the Watch Tracker app and I'm taking into account that my finger pressing the button to measure may be off by a tenth of a second or so.

For me personally acceptable: -2 /+3

I own +10 Oyster Perpetual watches.
The accuracy is unbelievable. My 3255 = +3 seconds in 3 weeks.
Sea-Dweller 4000 with 3135 movement +0,2 second per day.

My old Explorer with Caliber 3000, +1 second per day (for many years).

One of the most important changes Rolex implemented a few years ago concerning precision is testing the movement in a closed case again after COSC tested the movement first.
That’s why Rolex now proudly states "COSC + Rolex certification after casing". This makes a world of difference !
A few years ago this type of certification was reserved for brands like Patek Philippe only.

I think that the watch should perform +/-2 sec per day on average. The real question is how many days should you need to average to get this rate? To me, if my watch averages +/-2 per day over a week then I'm good.

Cheers,

Jonathan

In theory I don't care that much, but when I get a new (new for me) watch I end up obsessively timing it for the first month or two for no good reason.

That being said, my new (to me) pre-ceramic Sub is averaging less than a second/day fast, so I'm definitely happy. I'm not sure how long a 14 year old Rolex can keep that level of accuracy, but as long as it is around CoSC I'm fine with it. It would probably have to be 10-15 sec/day off before I spent the money to get it serviced unless it was around the time I should be getting it serviced anyway.

For a rolex. Cosc or better. For other watches a bit looser.

Personally I think it's utterly extraordinary that my new OP39 is within a second a day, and has been since I got it 6 or 7 weeks ago. None of my three old subs (1680, 5513 and 16610) can do that.
its just the individual watch. my ETA 7750 Panerai runs +1 sec per day as does my ETA 2892 IWC.....

my DSSD-B runs -1.5 per day

consistency daily is just as important....i would rather a watch that runs +7 per day than a watch that gains a second one day than loses 3 seconds the next day and than gains 2 seconds day 3..etc....

I check how the watch I am wearing has run for a week or so prior to rotating watches. And they all seem to run about 15-30 seconds fast a week--extremely pleased with that. Works for me.

During first few months of ownership, my current SD4K running +3 to +4 daily. Although it's still within chronometer standard but since Rolex advertised -2/+2, I'm a bit sour. I knew they could done better as my previous SubC is running close to +0.5s daily.

After 6 months of daily use, it's running consistently +1 (with a bit of resting positioning help).

Not very important to me as long as my watches are reasonably accurate within a 24 hr period as I rotate frequently and also reset (play with) my watch every morning.

I used to track this with an app, then gradually didn't care enough to keep doing it. Just checked my Sub, which is overdue for a service, and it's +12s after almost 2 weeks. Well within my expectations.

the ones advertised, obviously, but would worry only when out of COSC specs. However, thankfully, i am not ocd about this, only rarely checking to make sure it goes as it should.

My sub c is unreal i timed it all the time and it was 0.01 over a 2 week period. Yea with one of those apps so not completely accurate but i had an idea how accurate my Sub is. I would probably be annoyed if I got a new watch and it was not that good, but I would quickly get over it. I think I would need to be off 15-20 sec a day for me to send it in.

Timing was something I used to get worked up about but not much anymore. I rotate my watches enough where I'm not sure I'd notice. I certainly wouldn't send a Rolex in for regulation for anything less than -5/+7. I just took my wife's Cartier in for a new battery and had to take it to a competent watchmaker a week later when it stopped. The watchmaker found dust or other gunk preventing adequate battery contact -- highlighting to me the risk of opening up a case back for trivial issues.

I used to track the accuracy for my watches. I now just set it and forget it. Since I have few I wear throughout the week, I will set them in the morning before I leave for work. If they happen to be running after a day or two, even better.

I was following accuracy on my less than 2 months old BLNR.
To be sure...

Now, I will do it only from time to time to check.

If I was a Navy Seal.........
jumping out of an airplane........
reaching terminal velocity.............
ground is getting closer............
low altitude parachute release..........

I'd need better than +/- 2 sec.........

but then I'd be wearing a G-Shock Frogman or something, LOL
