Good thing; they'd have to infiltrate via the Thames!!! Rule Britannia.

SS models are scarce all over the UK, not just London. Even the Channel Island's AD has a long waiting list for any SS Rolex.

Was all over London with my brother last week.
No Sub or GMT

As the guys above mentioned. If there were a few around, how could Watchfindeer price a 2 year old GMT at 6250 etc

Went through Heathrow yesterday...guess what
NOTHING

No chance in London, you'd have to do some serious cold calling and then get on a train Cross country. Given you could be at the other end if the country in 5 hours, its probably feasible in a day, but its not going to be effortless

Usual suspects.
Impossible: d500/ blue dssd
Improbable. Blnr
Possible. The rest

Earlier this afternoon in Canary Wharf: 3 x Milgauss, 1 x Exp II, 1 x YM at Watches of Switzerland. 2 x Milgauss, 1 x Exp II, 1 x YM at David M Robinson.

( Yes, I had nothing better to do )

He's just messing, Nairn.

Looks like the Air King is starting to show itself more, considering we've had very few incomings here I'm still surprised it's taken this long to join the ranks of the unloved Exp2s and Milgausses. Does not bode well for new releases this year, esp the SD43 and SkyD, which will be far more popular.

Supply and demand. I have been looking for a sub no-date and zero luck in London, zero luck in various other ADs around the UK. Best I was told, 4-6 month wait (with 20% down of course). But this is for the sport models (Subs, BLNR, etc). There still is a great selection of DJ, Milguass and the likes to be found.
Some really good folks on the forum gave me some leads but still not much luck. Good luck with your hunt.

isnt it obvious? ADs are withholding models hoping the pound strengthens.

LOL sorry mate I must have been half asleep and missed the sarcasm.

I'm so used to all the American members chiming in with "I had no idea the UK was like this....here in the US we have every model in every window and discount anything SS and desireable"

A sub costs (retail) about $9230 in the US including tax a sub in the UK costs £6250 including tax. Without tax its £5000, which is $6211

Rolex is on sale for tourists

Er, no. Not quite.

A full VAT refund would 16.66% of RRP. So, the example of a sub retailing for £6250 would actually work out to £5208 (after a full VAT refund) which works out to $6495 (USD). It should also be noted that a full VAT refund is next to impossible, unless buying from the airport, or doing a lot of paperwork. If using a VAT refund scheme (Global Blue, GB TaxFree, or any of the others) your refund is closer will be closer to 14% or 15%.

But, yes, *any* Rolex is a bargain in the UK as compared to the US.

It was a tongue in cheek jibe at some of our American friends.
(In good humour may I add).

Yes, have a really good time; enjoy London. Eat, drink and enjoy life. Don't waste your time in jewellery shops.
Weather should be fine for early April. Lots of Spring daffodils and trees bursting into bloom.

Mostly to the US I reckon as the currency is strong so the Swiss get more for their money, the UK is pretty much the last place they want to send Rolexes now which is why we might have to have another price rise. I calculated the WG Daytona is £21050 here but current CHF and USD make this £22500 elsewhere.

I hear the Brexit side of things and that seems to be the reason to me, however the aussies also state they have very little to chose from.

How do their finances stack up ?? Is that the reason for their scarcity ?

I work very closely with that "crowd" and never seen any of those guys wearing gold or two tone. I've noticed mostly professional Rolex, one AP RO, one Hublot Big Bang, one IWC and one blue face PP Nautilus ( ). All steel or steel/leather.

Aussie's have had short supply for years I recall, as we had good supply before June we know it's Brexit that has done us in.

My guess is if they're spending that kind of money on a watch, they're moving up the food chain to haute horlogerie so PP, VC, AP, ALS and the like.

That may be true if you have a bad AD... if the AD issues you VAT form 407 you can get it all back, global blue is for the uninformed.

The VAT rate is 20% and per HMRC, using form 407 entitles the retailer to "zero-rate goods sold to entitled customers when they have the necessary evidence of export and have refunded the VAT to the customer."
The AD does not have to operate this scheme, but the good ones do but you also have to know what to ask for.

Not sure what qualifies as "a lot of paperwork" as that is subjective, but 1 form which takes 2 minutes to fill out isn't a big deal to most people.
