Buying few watches before Rolex. Buying Rolex right away would have saved a lot of money.

Best:
Walked in to buy an Explorer 16570 and noticed some dust in the dial after giving the AD a bundle of cash. The AD didn't want to part with the money, and offered this Submariner 14060M at the same 15% discount. My first Rolex and although it no longer gets wrist time, it went through college with me and will always be cherished. It was also the last they carried before the ceramic 114060, so I lucked out. Maybe bad: Trading a Daytona 116520 that I bought BNIB at full retail for a AP ROO 26470. Picked up the ceramic 116500 so the steel wasn't getting any wrist time, still enjoy the ROO very much. As the 520 is now discontinued, I may come to regret letting it go. No regrets: Selling this Zenith Stratos for $4400 (only about $800 loss), couldn't get past the overlapping subdials. |

My dumbest move was getting rid of a mint BP 5002. Luckily I just reacquired one. I'll try to avoid another regret like that but it's inevitable in this hobby.

My greatest mistake was owning almost all the pieces in breitling at some time then moving on from there. Waste of money

Selling my 1988 TT DJ bought new from AD. Sold it in 1990 because I needed the funds at the time. I wish I hung on to it.

No regret but I opted out of buying 16710 and ended up with Tag SeL and Rolex OP date. Even though I'm now looking for a 16710 Rolex, I still love these two watches.

Sold my very first Rolex back to the AD I bought it from for a trade. It was double regretful because I took a beating on the trade value and it was a GMT.
...the happy ending is that I found another 15 years later and bought it to keep. |

Getting my many years old Tissot PR 100 serviced and then buying my first "high quality" watch (a Tudor Black Bay) while it was away. By the time it came back I had the Black Bay on my wrist and a 16233 Datejust about to arrive and ended the year by getting a Grand Seiko. The only time I've given the Tissot any wrist time is when I had the Rolex in the shop for service. Although it's a nice looking watch, I just have a problem giving it any wrist time and probably shouldn't have spent the money on the repair of the Tissot, but I just didn't realize how much I wanted a "good" watch until I was using my iPhone to tell the time 100% of the time and then my repressed watch desire came to the surface.

Selling watches, then buying them again at between 2-4 times the value original paid. Moto now not selling, just slowly amassing.

Starting out with a Rado that I never really wear anymore but can't really bring myself to sell either as it was my first mechanical watch... that was probably the dumbest. From there on, I'm rather pleased with my record.

Three major stupidities that still make me blush:
In 1997, was offered a 5513 with bracelet for $900. Didn't make it back to the dealer with the money within 24 hours. At 48 hours he had "improved" the watch with a poor polish and upped the price to $1300. In my defense, I didn't have the $900, had to gather it. In 2002, I sold three 18k ladies watches to a dealer for less than scrap because IT SEEMED TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO LOOK UP GOLD PRICES that day. Three years ago, I sold a decent Ovettone for $3200. Misread my notes, I had paid $4700 and the dealer I sold it back to would have given me full price. I make good deals sometimes, but it's the bad ones that make you cringe.

1. Buying a 16570 as my first Rolex back in 2011. There's nothing at all wrong with the 16570, even though I eventually sold it. No, what I should have done was to purchase a used or NOS red/black 16710 as my first Rolex. I was so ignorant!
2. Buying 214270 (short hands) at RETAIL, which I later sold. Live and learn I guess...

For me it was selling my Breitling montbrillant. It was a watch my late dad bought me. I sold it I didn't realize how attached i was to it.
I sold it to a used watch retailer who was completely classless when I called them back to buy my watch back a few days later he made sure not to be there and kept the store closed the day i we agreed on for me to go by and didn't return my calls when I tried calling him. So I wouldn't be able to buy it back from him watchfinder Yonge and Eglington by the way was the retailer what an experience but I learned something from it. When I finally got ahold of him he apologized and told me he sold it boy oh boy what class of a person.

My friend just bought a Navitimer. I did not like it too much because the combination of the dial and the bezel is too busy. |

The brand itself is not bad. They make a good watch. For me they fit a tad big. I went through a big watch phase and grew out of it pretty quick. Also on the secondary market you take a large hit. The navitimer is a great piece. Especially if he got the 01 version |

Tag Carrera Chrono Panerai PAM 183 IWC Top Gun... I wasnt particularly attached to any of them but I think in the long run it would have been better to keep them and enjoy them. |
