Most robust Rolex?

Just wondering what everyone thinks is the most robust Rolex? In terms of not easily scratched and can do every activity with? I find my explorer 2 picks up so many scratches but not so many dings.

I'd say the Explorer II. IMO its brushed finish hides scratches well. I realize you just stated that yours scratches easily, but compared to others in my collection with polished surfaces, trust me when I say that my Explorer II is by FAR the least pronged to scratches. The GMT function as well as the quick hour change makes this one of my most versital watches.

You're going to be dealing with tons of scratches with any metal watch that you wear frequently, although polished steel will show it more than brushed. Your steel Explorer II isn't going to scratch more or less than any other Rolex Oyster, although I guess something like a Sub will have a Ceramic bezel insert that is harder to scratch, or an older Sub has an aluminum bezel insert that you can replace easily and cheaply when it scratches. If you want, you can replace the bezel on your Explorer, also, when it gets too scratched.

I would say the Sub-C as well. Exp 2 comes in 2nd place due to the bezel being able to show scratches (ceramic is scratch resistant)

My 17 year old 16710 coke is still in pretty good shape and that's with nearly 15 years during that time as a daily wearer.

All watches will scratch. In general something without a rotating bezel is going to be more robust as there are less moving parts or break or get dirt in.

For me, I would go with the Explorer II. When I owned one, I would wear it for all of my outdoor and physical activities. After owning it for over 7 years, it showed very little signs of wear and tear.

The Submariner would also be next on my list as the most robust.

Basically, the watches with brushed bracelets tend to hide the scratches better than polished.

this may be hard to believe but is my own personal experience having owned all of the other watches mentioned, I hate to say that a platinum watch because of the metals qualities "maybe" the most Robust. this is my actual experience having worn and abused a lot of types of Rolex watches and metals, nothing has stood up to everything and still looks fantastic like my only platinum watch

may not make sense but has been my experience

I do not own one, but I assume a 116622 Yacht Master would be pretty tough due to the platinum bezel. The polished center links might pick up scratches though.

to me, exp39 or even the older one. maybe even the standard mens 36mm OP.

its simple. no cyclops. no pcl's. not tall on the wrist. bezel doesn't overlap the case.

I have seen you post this Daytona alot. I am not overly keen on Daytona's but from your pictures this platinum Daytona has grown on me so much just from the pictures alone. It looks amazing the way the colours merge in sunlight

I would say they're all about the same, probably. Certainly the ones made of the same metal.

DSSD for me as well, it sure feels like, but I think any watch with the ceramic bezel will do equally well

Still in the Rolex family, the titanium Tudor Pelagos has to be a contender.

What do you mean by robust?

I think there is a difference between robustness and scratch resistance

I take robust to mean resistance to actual damage regardless of (minor) cosmetic scratches. My land rover picks up a lot of scratches and cosmetic dings when driving offroad, almost as many as a road vehicle, but the fact that is still works afterwards where the road car may take in water or damage or to the fuel tank is what I would be thinking of for robustness.

In the same way (and I am just using these names as examples) an Explorer 2 may resist cosmetic scratches better but a Sub may hold up longer before it stops functioning, would cause me to say the Sub is more robust.

Just my opinion

Agree. A steel oyster is a steel oyster. Any SS oyster model without PCLs would be about the same, I would think.
