Is this Yellow Gold 1680 Blue Nipple Dial Authentic?
Hi All
I have not seen any other Yellow Gold 1680 watches with the SUBMARINER label being shorter in length than the feet/meters line. The serial number is 338xxxx and I purchased used in Paris 17 years ago so I don't have the original history of the watch. Can anyone verify that the dial is authentic? |

Is this Yellow Gold 1680 Blue Nipple Dial Authentic?
I’ve looked in all of the corners of the internet I could think of, but didn’t find one exactly like yours. As others have mentioned, it appears real to me, but I can’t find another example of that particular font spacing/arrangement. Maybe it’s been professionally redone, and that’s why it’s fading/degrading in the manner it is?
Maybe post it up on VRF, see if another set of eyes can help you with it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well I have found a couple of examples mostly on for sale sites and ebay. And a couple others that I cant include the links I assume due to my low post count. Also the style is similar to what is called the maxi dials even though that is not like with like. |

Dial is correct. It is the earliest variant of blue dial. For whatever reason, these early dials were especially susceptible to deterioration and were often replaced thus seldom seen today.

Is the uniqueness something I should strive to maintain in spite of the obvious wear or would the value improve by more than the cost of a replacement dial? I imagine a good replacement dial would be a pretty penny if even available. |

Give it to a big-name seller. They’ll make up a silly name for the dial deterioration and it’s worth double!!
Actually I’d keep that stunning piece just as it is.
