I was wondering if the cyclops on the Submariner(and most models) ever gets annoying if you're not use to one. This may be personal preference although I'm not sure. The reason I ask is because my current watch(Seiko chronograph) does not have a cyclops. I don't really know why I'm asking this. I guess it's so I'll know when I hopefully get a Rolex sometime in the future.......the far far future.

I find in rooms filled with high powered lights and sometimes in bright sunlight, there's a lot of reflection from the cyclops.

Thanks, also one more question do you find Submariners to be durable enough for everyday wear? I wear my watches every day to school which includes two "breaks" a.k.a. outside time, and I don't want to scratch and or harm the watch into oblivion. lol

Submariners are very durable but over time (many years) stretch will occur in the bracelet. You could avoid this by fitting a Nato strap, which is a composite buckle strap. James Bond style.

The cyclops is personal preference, if you don't want it there is always the SD, very cool watch. As far as everyday wear, even the DJ is durable and will take whatever you could throw at it!

Myself not a great lover of the cyclops prefer the clean Crystal of the SD.But don't
mind the cyclops underneath crystal like in the Panerai.

It's probably a matter of personal preference, but I've never had a problem with the cyclops. When I first got it (on the DJ), I was a bit worried that its protrusion would make it vulnerable to damage - I couldn't be more wrong.

As dman said, any Rolex Oyster is very durable, especially if it's all SS (18K does tend to scratch easily). My SD's been with me through everything and still looks great.

I've got to agree, the Panerai inverted cyclops takes some beating.

The cyclops can come in handy for some of us more "mature" gentlemen who's arms aren't quite long enough to view the date without a little assistance.

Adrian, I too quite like the inverted cyclops on my 27C, I might make old jokes, but I am blind as a bat without my glasses/contacts. The worst part is, I am not a candidate for LASIK surgery.

Fortunately my eye sight has just deteriorated with age. I have only had two pairs of spectacles and I'm told it should not get any worse. I only wear mine for reading, my distance vision is perfect.

Like Adrian, I find the cyclops a tad difficult in certain light, and not always visible at certain angles, forcing you to centre the watch in your gaze and stare lovingly at the dial (wow, was that a JJ flashback???).

The bracelet will stretch over time, but cleaning will certainly prolong the bracelet life. They dont' stretch from being worn tight... rather from dirt messing up the link bushings.

As for Lasik... Daren it sucks to be you. Getting Lasik was the best money I've ever spent.

Oh sure rub it in mate, LOL!! I was on the table ready to have it done and the doctor changed his mind. I thought he was pretty cool for not wanting to take the chance. Maybe in the future it will be possible for me, I hope.

As for toughness, any Rolex is as tough as they come. They are engineered and built to last for several lifetimes. They will truly take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. (You're probably too young to remember that famous line from old Timex commercials (when TV was in black and white - yes, there really was a dark age

)).

All watches, including Rolex, will show scratches with age and use, but don't let that keep you from wearing it (when you finally get it). I wear my GMT almost every day, and it hardly shows any scratches. So when you do get yours, wear it proudly and enjoy it as the wonderful timepiece that it is.
