Icon5 Mismatched Boxes for Watches

Hi all,

Is it a red flag if a watch comes with the wrong year box?

I am looking at a 2007 Explorer II Polar that comes with box & papers. My problem is that the box presented is from the 1980's...

Is this something to be worried about?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

No problem but the price should be a bit lower.

What’s the seller’s explanation?

Red flag for what?

If you are buying a used watch in todays market, sellers will frequently throw together the parts so they can say "box and papers" to make it more attractive.

If they are not the box and papers that you want, look further.

I don't think this is necessarily a red flag, but if the seller is original owner, just ask them and they should be able to give you a straight, honest answer. Even if they're not original owner, ask and see what they say. How they answer you will be the test. Good luck.

Common watch; modern era. Keep looking and get a real full set if that’s important to you. It was to me and I love my polar BP

A 1980s box is worth quite a bit more than a 2007 box, so you could just sell it, buy the right box, and pocket the difference.
