Help on ebay purchase
I've been browsing sites for awhile to try and understand enough to make an informed buy on a vintage datejust. This one on ebay looked good (360101992511), and it has the advantage of a direct credit card payment which protects me somewhat. Does anyone have experience with this seller, who only occasionally sells watches? Any comments on the authenticity of the offering? My understanding is that no replicas have duplicated the movement as shown, but is there any way to authenticate the band, for example? Thanks for the help

...first, here is the link...
...okay....a FIRST glance at this watch would MOST LIKELY give the AVERAGE buyer thoughts that it is a very nice watch-looks like it.
...HOWEVER, my concerns are as follows: ......look CLOSELY at the following digits and alpha characters ..........the FIRST 8 in the SN compared to the last 8 ..........the 5 in the SN ..........the 6, 2, and LAST 3 of the ref# looks weird ..........the T and A in "STAINLESS" ..........the S in "STEEL" To ME, they do NOT look correct and I would consider this watch CASE as SUSPECT. Lets see if Orchi and Springer can shed some light. I HAVE STARTED A THREAD IN THE WATCHOUT SECTION for this with a link to this thread. (Additionally, I think this thread should probably be in "WATCHOUT" section.) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0%3D%26fvi%3D1 |

i think the case no are ok. i have seen many case with this kind of numbers. and beside an original 16233 case is not expensive. it's the movement that is expensive.

what it looks like to me is that the seller took the pictures while holding up a magnifying glass,a very common way to get close ups with out having a camera lense, and it also tends to distort images just like what it looked like there.
