Now that, IMO, is much more interesting than a Smith or Dufour, but I understand that this kind of funky style is not for everyone and probably most clients will prefer a more classic look, not my case, though the 5270G blue dial is a really tough contender, will be interesting to see if they will make a 5270P with blue dial, I think It should reach iconic status as the 5970, the problem is that they had to make 3 attempts to get the 5270 dial right, but now for me it is perfect...

Love his GMT disc system, if the same one would be in a darker kind of blue like the Vingt-8 you posted it would be incredible, not a huge fan of very light blue though

Choose your Colour, Arabic or Roman, movement finish, name placement, cabochon jewel in crown...choice is yours! Except the hands, case and lugs!

I understand the appeal of Roger Smith but I personally prefer Voutilainen. Beautiful, beautiful pieces.

The Ferrier Double Spiral Tourb. is also worth looking at that price point.

If to get a Smith this is the one I would want, it is stunning, not a huge fan of the others to be honest, of course I like them but at that price point there are many other watches which would have my preference, but this one

Thanks for sharing! For what it's worth, I would have done exactly as you did. Sticking date issue on that expensive a watch would give me angst too!!

So RWS was creamed in the vote and PP rules the day.

Having cogitated at length I have abandoned the thought of owning either of them and chosen a new journey which has since commenced. Appointment made, plane tickets booked, train time tables finalised. Sadly only Thursday 29 September and then I can chronicle the journey

Roger W Smith or Patek Philippe

5270 would be the winner for me!

While you’re visiting Kari, you should also pop in to Bovet.

Spoke with one of Roger’s staff just there now, and was informed that 10-12 is the number, and likely to stay at that level due to shortage of the necessary skilled labour.
Along with Roger himself, only 4 of the 7 staff are making the watches – so in effect, 5 watchmakers are capable of on only getting 2 completed over the course of a year.
Not sure how I ended up believing that they would be putting 20 out the door, but as I was wrong, I’m happy to be corrected and directly from one of the staff members.

All these indies are nice and unique but give me a 5270 in G or R rather.

I'd probably go with the RW Smith. It's exclusivity and true watchmaking at its best.

The rose gold white dial 5270 and the white gold blue dial 5270 date have the same movement correct? Why does the date on the blue dial version stick and not the one on the white dial rose gold version?
Very curious.
Thank you.

Not a dial problem, some Aquanauts or 5711's have the sticking date, others don't, shit happens

RW Smith for me. What he does is unique and fabulous, what Patek does is nice but mass produced.

The man said that he sold his 5270 Blue dial because the date got stuck. He then bought the same watch 5270 with a white dial. If the movement controls the date and the movements are the same won't he have the same problem with the white dial 5270?
