If you will be wearing the watch regularly then I’d say no - you’ll just put those marks right back on it.

But if it will be worn only on special occasions and you want to have pride in its appearance, feel free. But I’d say RSC since it may need a service anyway.

Take a look at this enlargement of the OP’s 1803.



That line between the polished side and the brushed lug can be blurred by a cape cod. None of us is perfect so a bit of an error here and a bit there can make a mess of the that edge.

Same is true of an SS Sub or any watch with nice lines. Of course one could tape off the sections to be safe but even then the results on the polished sections may turn out uneven.

But if the whole watch case is polished and has smooth curves rather than edges, bevels and chamfers then you would have any concerns.

Seriously....leave it alone and that goes for any of those polishing clothes. I don’t care who might be able to polish it. It will be worse than it is now by losing sharp edges,
the even satin finish and correct contours. You will later have regret if you polish it... I’m sure. That watch case is in excellent condition based on the pics provided and was not abused. Most of the minor fine marks on the side can be caused by even a shirt cuff rubbing and will come right back anyway if you wear it.

This - these are photographic scratches, IE a flash and close up brings out all the nastiness. You wouldn't be able to see it by eye.

That looks fine. I would not polish it. I recently picked up a 52 year old DJ 1603 and had to make the same decision. I decided NOT to have it polished and I’m glad I did. The cool vibe of a vintage Rolex watch is that it doesn’t look like new.

Not sure how you can tell definitely based on those two photos. Even if it has been lightly polished, the case looks strong from what I see and the marks are mainly the hairline type that will come back, even from a shirt cuff. Therefore, I recommend not polishing. A case has a finite number of polishes it can take before its dimensions and visual appeal are ruined.

A light one will be ok. My father gave me his and I had my professional watch maker make it look very very good. He knows what he is doing. Don’t take it to a hack. You will regret.
