Watch Suggestions? Too many options
Good day TRF
Just like many of you I'm always hunting for next watch. However after years of being life learner of many hobbies I have overwhelmed myself. Thinking of myself as being a modestly mindful person, I do understand the difference between "want" and "need". At this time though, I do "need" another watch. I am looking for something that I can sport regularly and take some load off the JLC Reverso. My current line up which i enjoy and plan on keeping are all watches (to me) have a specific place in my life. The day-date gets worn 2 times a month. The Pam on the weekends, IWC when i wear a suit and the Reverso on most days. I wear business casual a lot and suits the rest of the time. So sleeves are important. Other than the go to watches are there others that i'm not considering. I enjoy pieces which have a classic design but have a uniqueness to them that makes it special. The issue many of us are facing is the prices of sports watches at the moment which i refuse to participate in purely on personal values. Any and all suggestions are welcome as I'm just trying to get owners perspectives Thanks in advance! |

Don't know your price range, but staying in the general vicinity of the Reverso:
DateJust 36 - is the obvious choice, I know (sorry- I had to go there) Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150 - the all around go-to non Moonwatch Omega (IMHO) Cartier Santos (I favor the blue dial) Glashutte Originale Sixties Series (Try one on- trust me- the no date version is a close-to perfect watch). JLC Master Ultrathin (Date, Small Seconds, or Moon) I'm sure others will chime in... |

Besides a GS (Quartz, Automatic or Spring drive) which I would recommend all day long. I saw and handled a Doxa sub 200 the other day and was pleasantly surprised at the super quality and looks of this watch, the bracelet was fabulous. All for less than a thousand quid. Stunning watch.
Not my photos;

You own some nice watches and have left the choices wide open. I would, if funds allow, get a six digit Submariner ND. Great and classic watch and a cornerstone of a collection. Next would be the classic Omega Speedmaster on the bracelet with a few NATO straps and leather straps to change it up. I would then look at the Tudor Black Bay GMT. Those are three that I believe could get a lot of wrist time and are solid in value. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Funnily, I was going the other direction and suggest a Tag Heuer Autavia...they won’t break the bank. Has a nice bead bracelet, great heritage and seldom seen in the wild. A decent size that would fit under the cuff of your sleeve and you can change it up by putting it on a leather strap to give it a more “vintage” feel. I was recently deciding between this watch and a BB58.

I think you need a sports watch of some sort. My suggestions would be a Speedster moonwatch, Tudor GMT, or an Autavia.

I see Rolex OPs pretty much everywhere I go. I picked one up grey market a couple months ago and wear it almost every day. My whole collection has taken a back seat to a 34mm watch. I never thought that would happen.
Like you, I refuse to participate in the madness. This gets you into Rolex that can dress up and down nicely. My OP is more cuff friendly than my Reverso. I'm also a pretty mindful person, who puts a lot of thought in my collection decisions. |

The different iterations of this are nice. I have a SS version.
Helps you stay out of the madness for a while. |

You seem to like classy watches. I would suggest one of Bulgari's Octo Finissimo pieces, either the standard automatic or chronograph. The thinnest in their class, each is handsome, refined, and important.

The aqua terra is a watch i have really been meaning to spend some more time with. I like what it has to offer. I have not looked in to Glashutte Originale close enough and really apprecaite the direction. And I have soft spot for JLC so its hard to say no to them in my book. |

I will own a sub one day, however 3 of my family members all wear subs and this has kept me from pulling the trigger. I agree that the speedmaster would be a really solid choice and checks off all the boxes that i wrote out. I do think i need to go and check them out again and get some wrist time with one. And the Tudor GMT is another great choice Thank you! |

I had a Tag Carrera when i was 20 and i had it only a year till the bracelet broke while i was adjusting my side mirror on my vintage car. Well the watch found its way in the middle of the busiest freeway in the US, the 405. Since then i have never considered another tag but i might have to now after seeing this watch. Much appreciated. Cheers! |

You are absolutely right! I know i didnt mention this in my post, but having a date function is hugely important to me. I naturally always look at my wrist to know the date, even when i have a watch on that doesnt have it.
I owned an explorer II maybe 6 years ago, enjoyed it but found it a bit too purpose built. I love the milgauss but it doesn't have a date either :( (Even though i do agree with Rolex that it looks better with out a date function.) |

I have been considering the OP as well but was worried about the size being too small. I know the reverso is smaller but since its lug to lug has length it fills up more space on the wrist than one would assume. Im 6,1 at 200lbs so in the back of my mind I just wrote off anything smaller than 36. However, that is exactly what i said before owning smaller watches which i have found to be very enjoyable. I will have to go and try one on now to see. Believe me, being methodical about decision making is something i enjoy, however it drives everyone else crazy! Except in the office when I find overlooked items in business strategy. |

When i was able to buy my first watch, that was my first choice. However, despite still to this day knowing it is one of the best watches out there, there were things about it to me kept me from wearing it regularly. It was a great learning experience for myself and i ended up selling it. I still love the watch and enjoy seeing them out in the wild. Thanks for sharing! |

Great idea. I have honestly been putting some time in to looking at Bulgari. I know very little about their watches and frankly not considered any jewelry brands watches till this month. I have purchased some of their jewelry for my partner but always wrote off their watches. This was because historically jewelry/fashion brands only make watches to make money. The same reason why they all make fragrances. However, Bulgari does seam to be doing some things right and they have my interest. Thanks again and i'm glad you mentioned it. |

Thank you everyone for reading and giving me some great ideas. I really appreciate it and it does help me frame my perspectives.
I do enjoy a bit of lume and a date function, some water resistance 5ATM or more, stainless steel and straps are preferred over bracelets. Price is flexible. Im more concerned with value rather than cost. But somewhere between $2-8K would make sense for this kind of watch. Here is a list of watches which I do enjoy but need to spend time evaluating them more. Omega AquaTerra Omega Speed Master Bulgari Octo Bulgari Diagono chrono JLC Master Compressor chrono Hublot classic fusion chrono Ulysse Nardin Marine Ulysse Nardin San Marco GMT Ulysse Nardin dual time IWC Ingenieur Chopard Mille Miglia chrono Im sure there are more but those are just some contenders. |

I own a couple of UNs and used to have a Maxi Marine. They are incredibly well made and very nice watches. Bracelets are superb.
Here's a few pics. |
