Picked up an ATMOS Clock! What a beauty!

I’ve been watching these clocks on eBay and Chrono24 and finally picked one up. I think it’s circa 1960 and has been stored for all those years. It was advertised as working and keeps good time...

I’m slowly learning about how to get it going so if anyone has some tips, please do tell...!

Serial dates it between 1960-1980 but there’s a plaque on it as it was a gift dated 1961.

The Japanese katakana for JLC really butchers the name. lol. Nice clock.

I’ve had my eye on them for a while. Congratulations. That one looks to be in spectacular condition.

Picked up an ATMOS Clock! What a beauty!

Presuming the gas hasn’t escaped from the chamber, and the pendulum is in the unlocked position, all you should need to do is expose it to varying temperature changes. Like raising the thermostat several degrees for an hour then dropping it for an hour. This will provide some power reserve

Then move the minute hand clockwise around one rotation.

Excellent. Older ones were built slightly better. You did well!

I have one sitting in the original box with a sales receipt that I inherited from my grandmother. It’s in mint condition appearance wise but does not work. Can anyone recommend a reputable repair shop?

Hate to state the obvious, but before you you go to bring it in for servicing, make sure you check that the unlocking lever is fully in the unlocked position. Fully push the lever to the locked position, then back to the unlocked position. Might save yourself a trip.

This is fabulous. It’s on display at my local AD. Resisting the temptation, but this isn’t helping...

I never knew their value as a time piece; when I was in high school in the 70’s I worked in a jewelry store and delivered a good amount of the clocks to a large insurance company for employees with 20th anniversaries.

As mentioned before, make sure pendulum is unlocked.
The clock needs to be perfectly level due to the style of winding mechanism. If not the pendulum will not swing correctly, which would prevent it from running as well.
Most Atmos clocks have a built in level on the base.
