My condolences.

Curiosity is a funny thing. As a kid, I wondered what made my stepfather's binoculars work. That turned out to be an expensive education.

Also as a kid, I wondered what would happen if you cut an electrical cord, so I cut a lamp cord with a scissors (it was still plugged in).

I can't fault you for doing what you did. At least your mistake didn't nearly kill you. Good luck with the repairs.

My guess is the AD has never had to replace a ceramic insert before and are pulling a number out of thin air. Prices can vary of course but this is the official price from Rolex Geneva, I don't think the US price will be over $100 cheaper.

It can be replaced without being exchanged with Rolex - for instance if the bezel was knocked off and lost.

There is a 50% premium charged over the standard cost where the exchange part is not provided. And I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you make a habit of ‘losing’ the bezel Rolex will soon refuse to replace it any longer.

Do watchmakers with Rolex parts accounts have the ability to order a ceramic insert and the white retainer ring? Or is this only a back to RSC fix?

Provided the watchmaker holds Level 40 (professional models) accreditation then yes they can.

Bummer but I love the tinkering. I know it was aluminum but I swapped my PO orange and black bezel all the time even had a homemade tool someone made out of silicon. Popped off in 2 seconds. I remember the bezel going for 200 or so. 500 is not bad for ceramic especially for Rolex.

I would love to know if independents have the Rolex tool or have they made their own etc. maybe they are certified with omega and an omega tool works? I know that tool used to go for 1000. It would just be interesting to know.

I know if I had a tool to do it and not damage the bezel or the little silicon ring I would source a LV bezel for my Sub C.

Independents with the correct accreditation have the right tool. The Omega won’t do the same job.

Anyone have a pic of the tool just really interested to see what it looks like. Will it also rip the silicon ring every time?

The tool is the same tool used for opening and closing an Oyster case. It is a combined case opener and glass/bezel press. Just change the attachment and away you go.

If you google 'Rolex 1019 tool' and you can see the tool and a variety of dies.

The ring will typically before, snag or tear but is ultimately unusable regardless of the damage.

Your balls are way bigger than mine. I didn’t take the watch out of my house for 3 days after getting it. You say hold my beer I’m taking this puppy apart. Good thing is if you can afford a Pepsi you can afford a repair.

When I broke mine (posted here in thread) it took almost 3 months for RSC to get and I believe the cost out the door was about $1500

Curious now on a stainless watch what the time frame and cost is
