keep it and get used to it. It doesn't look bad at all. Its a large watch by design, but isn't too big.

The new RG black dial wears smaller as there is no white, so there is that option

In truth the Ti to me wears smaller than the RG and i am assuming the Ce wears even smaller since its all black. I would exhaust all 44mm options before going to a 42mm unless its a diver.

It looks good on you. Give it some time.

I too, had lusted for a 44 for a while (there's a recent thread about it). Bought it, found it too big, didn't love it, and out it went.

I was thinking 42mm in gold and purchasing a rubber strap. The 42mm actually sits a hair higher than the 44mm.

I am in a love-hate with this one!

We are in the same boat I see.. Watch collecting is supposed to be fun-exciting and lately I keep buying all these pieces that are never good enough. What is wrong with me....

i would wait for SIHH before committing to that. I like it on other people, but that mustard dial doesn't sing to me.

The dial bothers me as well that is why I haven't pulled the trigger on it.

I think your advice on waiting to see what else comes from the AP realm is the right move...

My wife just said.. "Face it John boy, You're one of those people that are never happy."

I'd wait too. The thing I don't about the 42 are the simple round chrono pushers. I just love the design of the ones on the 44. The pushers on the 42 are a deal breaker for me.

I imagine its just the lighting, but the bezel finish on your RG44 looks different to mine - mine is more glossy.

Looks great on your wrist, much prefer that to the new 42mm RG ROO's.

Only reason to go for the 42mm is if you've got wrists the same size as me :D

Maybe give us a shot from further away. A mirror shot 3+ feet for a better perspective.

I suppose if you've already decided it's too big, that's all that matters, but it's tough to tell from that shot.

That’s the old bezel on earlier ones with matte finish versus brushed vertical lines on newer ones.

Just the light, that and I am the worst picture taker on earth.

@Connor.. It is shiny but you would know more than I would bud as I am new to the AP brand, Picked it up here from a trusted seller. I bought it blind and have never even tried one on before.

I think the RG44 is a pretty iconic AP, so a good one to start with! It was my first AP too.

That dial is really not my favourite, AP refer to it as champagne but I think everyone else calls it mustard. I'd like to see an updated version with a different champagne shade.

I pulled out one of my subs as a comparison.. I am traveling with my wife for family obligations so I limited on comparison at the moment but this should give everyone a good idea. Again my photo taking is sub par at best

honestly to me it looks like it wears very similarly to that sub. From those pics there isn't a huge difference

I still think the AP looks good

I have it on with an old thermal today and it's wearing on me slowly...

The only reason I bought one was because Tyler has been ranting and raving about the 44, then posting pics to enable..

I think it looks good!

I moved from mainly wearing Rolex’s to the 44 and found the initial wear a little strange but it’s settles and became a firm favourite, so much so I’m only left with the 116600.

I can understand Tyler's photos having that effect however the watch looks good on you. The problem might be that you're comparing it to a Rolex. If I put a sub on my wrist it looks way too small by comparison. I'd give the 44 a chance before you let it go.

It’s definitely the older matte finish not new brushed finish. Here is my old and new so you can see what I am talking about.

Since it's absolutely a must for me I take it as a given, but I find trying on the desired pieces before purchasing will pretty much eliminate this dilemma. I usually spend a little time at an AD or even better, borrow a friends if available. Maybe just me but I like to know the watch fits well for me before I drop that $. Different for everyone I guess but just the hassle alone of getting out of it would be enough to make a test drive mandatory. I did that just a week ago with the SD3 vs SDD and the SDD was just too bulky for my liking even though I loved the blue fade face. Would have bought it too if I hadn't tried it on. Anyway ...just a thought.

As Ken the Highlander says you bought the old version, the new with crisp vertical bezel makes a lot of difference. Also the font around the Tachy is smaller and more subtle which I prefer. I would try one of those before you give up on 44s. Sizewise it looks OK on you as well. Plus you can put a GP Red strap on it too, works perfectly.

Not very clear what exactly you don't like about? The weight? The size? Or the looks? From the pics you posted, size looks fine. It's an Offshore. It's supposed to look big. That's part of the appeal. And yes, you got the older matt bezel. Newer ones including mine comes with bezel with vertical line finishing and for me it reflects light a lot better.

After 2 months, if it still doesn't sing to you, time to move on. Luckily, this is quite a liquid piece.

I see the difference and I know I should have went with the black dial. I was teetering on the fence and jumped in and picked this up on a whim because it was at my fingertips. The new bezel is a huge improvement IMO and I overlooked that as well.

I've been wearing the 44 today and starting to get used to it... Now I am wanting the new one...

Thanks for the help and pics gentlemen.

Would it be wise to have both versions? I was going to pick up a 5524G this week but that black dial looks incredible now that I am focused.
