Very different ….which one? Thoughts…

If you were picking between these two very different watches….what would be your thoughts?

Daytona 126500 black dial ——— Yachtmaster 126655

Let’s set up a scenario …..complication doesn’t matter, you have GMT, SUB, other brands chrono but no Rolex chrono. You have SS and PM Rolex already, (WG & YG) all on full bracelet, you also have other brands..PP, AP, etc…

These are very close in price on secondary market.

I think the YM is a very good bang for your buck, but the Daytona is well….the Daytona.

Thoughts are welcome as always

I love the Daytona but prefer white dial. In this case I'd go with the YM. I have the 37mm and love the matte bezel with the pop of red on the dial

That black dial Daytona is perfection, and this is coming from
someone who disliked the modern Daytoma not too long ago

If you’re farsighted then the YM. If your eyes are sharp, Daytona.

You answered your own question in that last sentence, Also, I don’t care for the OF bracelet. Get the Daytona!

As someone who doesn't really love Daytonas, I'd choose the Daytona over the YM/OF. I don't like RG & while OF is comfortable, it, IMO, has limited appeal to me outside of beach/vacation. I could wear SS 365 days, conversely. You already have a Sub, which is a YM, but better in every way except "svelteness."

The one you like more is the right answer.

That said, I think it's hard to dispute that it's the Daytona over the YM all day every day.

I’d go Daytona, and that’s coming from a guy who isn’t exactly the biggest Daytona fanboy

My reasoning is simple. You don’t have a Rolex chrono , so you might as well get the nicest one in that price category (IMHO of course)

I voted Daytona because everyone needs to be able to say they’ve had a Daytona (or more) in their collection. Then sell it to get the YM.

Retail prices on PM Rolexes that come on the oysterflex bracelet are a total ripoff. They basically charge almost what you would pay for the same watch on a full gold bracelet. The profit margins of PM watches on OF bracelets must be absurd.

In the Rolex board room… “Hans, let’s replace the solid gold bracelet with a piece of $5 rubber, and charge almost the same money!”

I guess we don't have the same definition of "almost", it's a $20K difference

Some examples:

YG skydweller on bracelet $48k, on OF strap $41k.
YG Daytona on bracelet $39k, on OF strap $30k.

This is a pretty small delta.

Interesting....I was checking the white gold Daytona with exact same case and ceramic bezel.
It seems that the ceramic bezel is worth a lot:
WG with same ceramic bezel is a 20k delta.
YG only 10k delta because the full gold has no ceramic bezel...

Daytona, it’s rugged enough to be a daily. The Yachtmaster is pretty but wouldn’t really fit into my lifestyle.

I’m not a Daytona fan but if I were ever to own one it would be the black. And the only Rolex I’m less interested in than the Daytona is the YachtMaster so there you go.
