5712 in Hamburg
A buddy and me decided to go on a little flying excursion... We've both got ppl and love to fly little planes about for fun...
We set off from the UK a few days ago, and basically had dinner in France, then the next night Brugges, then overflew Holland and into Hamburg. Its just luck when you don't research cities, what you find and where you eat, it is all pure dumb luck - albeit leveraged on Google and trip advisor... Well luck had it, that in Hamburg we literally stayed on the Bond St (London) of Hamburg.... There were sooo many watch shops. I walked all over, and went into many. Obviously I asked the usual questions in most places - do you have any white steel Daytonas? They just laughed and said no. I think at least wearing my black one showed I wasn't a chancer - but it certainly didn't change the outcome. And I didn't appreciate the laughing. My buddy was completely naive to watches. I gave him a pretty good tour and lesson en route. From Lange to longines - we saw some amazing pieces, even worth more than our houses!! Obviously dropped into a few patek dealers, trying against all hope, to see a 5990 or anything -for that matter, in the Nautilus family. Nothing Then finally, in wempe. The manager, (whose 5712 I noticed from across the room) - overheard me asking if it was possible to see any Nautilus models, turned to see who was asking. As our eyes met, I said hello... So he got up and walked over, he took his 5712 off to show me ... An amazing opportunity - I thanked him He said roughly 3-6 people per day come in and ask for Nautilus... He said nowhere can get one for 10 years. The 5712 is possibly the exception, and took my details... But I'm not holding my breath!! All in all a lovely trip, even better for seeing so many beautiful watches. Totally unexpected! |

That's nice of the manager and how times change, I remember showing the manager in my local Fraser Hart my RG Nautilus as he'd never seen one before and it was his grail watch.

I kept waiting for the payoff and it was a 10 year list... sad.

He lied.
But...that’s irrelevant really. That sound like an incredible journey. I’m truly jealous

Seems unrealistic unfortunately but you never know. Im glad he took the time to talk to a customer though. Goes a long way and short sighted ADs don't get it.

I know the owner of a dealer here in Singapore.
He has not have the experience of seeing many nautilus live. He offered to rent the few nautilus I have so that he can have them on display. Ha ha.....of course I said no. Just an experience I like to share. |
