Watch repair: Beware in Charlotte, NC
I recently needed a minor repair on my two tone bluesy. The date stopped changing. Since it's only 4 years old, no need for a full service, so I sent it to a local high end watch dealer I've done business with before who said they use a local guy with a Rolex parts account. I get the watch back and there is one good sized ding and one smaller one on the case at the 5'o'clock and 7'o'clock position. I contacted the watch dealer and he was very apologetic and has offered a refund, free appraisals, and other things to "make it right." I don't hold these guys responsible and I'm not pursuing this. What's done is done. When I send it to RSC in a few years for service, they'll polish it out. However, I do want everyone to know that Brad Moose, former owner of Complete Watch Repair in Belmont, NC is the one who did the work. Maybe I'm naïve, but I expected better from someone who has a Rolex parts account. Don't send your watch to him for anything!! Before and after pics are coming. Got to get them off my phone.

How did you determine it was the watchmaker versus the retailer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Completely unacceptable if the guy really is a CW21 with Rolex acct.
Trying to figure out how those marks got there. Wonder if he used an improper tool to pry the bezel off? But then again, movement can be removed just be removing bracelet and case back. Sorry to hear of this. Very unfortunate, and if that case was 18K it would really have been dinged up. |

That’s why I asked Chad a question. There are no certified watchmakers within 500 miles of Charlotte with that name. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

How does that even happen?
You'd think they would take every precaution. |

The dealer said the watch stayed in the original packing which was an old RSC service box from sending in a previous watch and the repair guy picked it up from them. Your comment is interesting because I specifically asked if this guy had a Rolex parts account and the answer was yes. Now I’m wondering if I have non Rolex parts in my sub. Where can I find a list of all certified watch repair people with a Rolex parts account?

I'm sure this list isn't exhaustive, but should capture WM's that meet the requirements to have a parts account.

It's a beautiful watch. I can't understand how the watchmaker made those dings??!

At this point, it’s a possibility. Too early to assume anything. I’m sending the watch to Dallas RSC for a full service and polish. If the guy that did the work isn’t CW21 with a Rolex parts account, then who knows what is inside the movement now. Plus, did he ding it up like the case? I’ll know more after Rolex takes it apart.

yup. chad should absolutely be covered and not out of pocket for anything. the repair on the repair invoice along with the refund on the non-repair repair invoice should all be covered by the intake repairer and their contractor/vendor. |

They offered, but I haven't done anything yet. The watch dealer is ECJ Luxe, which is the AP dealer here in Charlotte and part of Diamonds Direct. It's very hard to believe they would use a non certified watch repair guy. That makes zero sense. I'm just going to wait until RSC finishes a service and see what their report/notes say. Yes, all of this is a pain in the rear, but it's best to stay calm and just get the watch taken care of properly. I'll deal with the rest later.

Just curious... have you used Windsor for any repairs? They're a Rolex AD and have an in-house watchsmith.
