Toronto Indy Setup

Although I'm not really a fan of Indy car racing, I'm a motorsports nut, nonetheless. The actual race is on July 15th I believe.

When I saw them setting up I had to go check it out! Neat to see how they're creating this track:

In the days leading up to the race I think they'll have other events (or racing classes) take place.

The calm before the storm, cool to see how they stage this to get ready. Thanks for sharing!

I WISH we had an F1 race here in Toronto. That's all I could think of the day prior, before the lines went on:

I can imagine! In Toronto we experience our fair share of road closures for various events. So believe me, I feel your pain lol.

Luckily this event is in an area where distortions are to a minimum in comparison to others (marathons or highway closures for bicycle rides).

We spent a few days in TO last week. Eating out mostly, trying small amounts in Kensington. Wifes daughter was graduating from the law school. Back in the hot humid Fla now.

That's fantastic, Art! Congratulations to her! A lot of the lawyers I work with share the same alma mater.

Last week wasn't fun, at all. Can't complain when the weather is nice here but damn was it ever humid...

They start setting up Long Beach a week or so before the event. Not sure when they close off traffic exactly though.

How much of the track there did they have to put down fresh Asphalt? My guess would be not much if any.

You should've seen how messed up the roads were prior. Canadian winters aren't very kind in that sense (or at all).

Years ago, I was in Monte Carlo while they were setting up for the Monaco Grand Prix. That was awesome.

Yes, it could have been March. We go over there a few times each year to Sarasota so I could have my months mixed up. It takes up the parking lot of the Dali, we skipped going to see the museum that time due to the race.

Thanks for the pics! Big IndyCar fan. Was just up in Elkhart Lake for the race at Road America. Give IndyCar another chance. McLaren rumored to be coming full time next year. We are finally getting back to the CART formula that made IndyCar racing so successful. And the 2018 chassis, while spec, is mich much better looking than any F1 car has been in years. The racing is better as well, and always has been, IMO.

Toronto Indy Setup

That weekend has a lot of racing packed into 3 days.

Pro Mazda, Porsche GT3, USF2000, and IndyLights ahead of the main IndyCar race.

I enjoy seeing the guys I’ve helped a bit as they make their way up the ladder.

Glad you enjoyed it! I'll go back every dsy, weather permitting on my morning walk. The best way to kill time before going into work!

I totally agree with Gentleman8 and what you say. Ever since F1 got those small turbo engines it was ruined for me personally. Even watching on TV isn't the same for me because of this. American's have the right idea towards racing in that sense.

Sounds like it'll be one heck of a weekend, indeed! The Porsche GT3 race is something I would love to see.

Have you ever raced at Mosport here in Ontario?

No. My only chance to race in Canada was many years back at Montreal and I couldn’t swing the cost back then.

Ah ok, didn't miss out on much I guess. Montreal has a better track (wish it was here in Ontario) but Mosport seems to have a lot of track days available.

Plenty of tracks in the states though. There's a few I would love to get a few laps in on some day. Laguna Seca is one of them.

They're SO loud, you can feel it and I love the smell of the burnt fuel.

You have to!!!

Feeling the vibrations from the loud exhaust through your body was amazing. The smell of the burning fuel remains with me in a good way. Seeing these things those close in person was amazing.

Thanks, Trace. I'll certainly remember the experience. Silly little things like being there to see them do things like this mean a lot to a hardcore motorsports lover:

Some GT3 Cup action (Dr.Tom's rivals)!

These GT3 Cup cars were a blast to watch. Incredible loud, more so than the other cars above.
