According to an AD in Switzerland, the 5712 being discontinued in 2 years

The AD manager told me he was told this two days ago directly from Patek. After 2019, they are done.

Any thoughts on how this will affect the re-sale value of them? Will it push prices up or down?

I seriously doubt Patek would make that announcement two years before discontinuing the reference. It's like telling potential customers get one now it will be worth a fortune in a couple years and I don't think they do that. We will see.

Do you like the 5712?
If yes, buy it.
If not, don't buy it.

It will (obviously) push prices up. I was told last year by a Patek boutique manager to hang on to my 5712, because it is the second-highest in demand after the 5711.

Does discontinuing a desirable reference ever lower resale? That's a rhetorical question.

Depends. Are you buying for a tween child's future fiancé?

Patek insiders know in advance what new product is coming out in a year or two. They may also know what references are being discontinued.

Whether a Patek AD knows this information will depend on how closely the AD works with Geneva and if there was some information "leak".

Will the 5712 be discontinued all together in 2019 or just the SS version? It has been over 10 years of production. It would not surprise me if they came out with its replacement.

Considering how the NYE watches were leaked so far in advance of the official launch - this wouldnt surprise me....but in fairness no Baselworld release has been this far early so I am slightly sceptical that an AD "manager" would have the inside road but everyone has personal views. Just to be on teh safe side can the OP just ask him if I am getting my 5131P next year

That would be great but hard to imagine, except maybe a minor change on the model, in any case we'll see in 2 years

All the ADs tell me they do not have a clue what Patek is planning or doing. I would take the information with a big grain of salt. ,

Better ask for two golf bags if OPs AD can source one for you.
