We have our annual end of summer vacation coming up in September and my wife has requested mostly whites for this trip as I tend to push the red pretty heavily even in the summer. But for her, anything!!

I have a few, but they need age, these 14's are ready to drink now, I think 14 burgs are perfect for drinking young.

Questions for all the aficionados here. I know many of you have much more wine knowledge than I.

How do you feel about:
1) Grown, Produced, and Bottled
2) Produced and Bottles
3) Vinted/Cellared and Bottled

I try to only purchase #1 or #2 for my personal cellar and/or consumption. I will drink #3 if it is free, but I try to avoid ever paying for it.

I have a single bottle of the 2013 Southing, should I drink it now or sit on it a little longer?

I'm sure there will be dissenters on this but in my view domestic Pinot's don't benefit greatly from aging. I mean can they, sure but on the whole stylistically they do better when young IMHO

Nice Larry, that should be a wine club Cabernet??

Maybe not though it's not that inexpensive

Try some Thomas PN with 5+ years on them compared to the recent release, and you'll agree that they benefit greatly with aging.

Have also had a sublime 2005 SQN Over and Out at a birthday celebration in 2014, but that could also just be Manfred Krankl sprinkling his super secret crack sauce in the barrels......

SQN doesn't count, as you alluded to. Plus they don't make it anymore so there's that

Plus like I said there are always exceptions LOL

Tonight's selection --- '12 Ladera Reserve -- this is probably the best wine from Ladera I've had.

Medium to full bodied -- it has some notes of cassis and blueberry -- opens up quite nicely -- without overdoing it. Quite tame and yet super balanced for Howell mountain fruit...

Very much a Bordeaux-Esque Napa Cab.

Cheers all!!

You tried Ladera's Lone Canyon cab? I got a couple mags of the 2006 after that vineyard was sold off to Bill Harlan for his Promontory bottling.

No, talked about it at the Vineyard when the wife and I were last there -- as I'm a big 06 and 07 advocate -- but it wasn't available to taste while we were there.

Pessimist Red Blend 2015, DAOU Vineyards - Paso Robles

A Worthy Red Blend at reasonable price point approx. $25!

The 2015 Pessimist is one of the more forward, ready to go and sexy releases in the lineup. Made from 37% Syrah, 27% Zinfandel, 31% Petite Sirah and the rest Tannat and Grenache, it gives up tons of sweet dark fruits, spice box, vanilla bean and sweet oak in its full-bodied, nicely balanced, mouth-filling style.
