Patek discounts?
Just curious as to what kind of a discount one can usually expect on a Patek?
I have heard their margins are higher than Rolex, does that mean a higher discount typically? Of course, I know a few of their models are impossible to get, I'm just referring to easy to buy off the floor models. |

It all depends on the model and the AD. On some of the easy to find models (say an aquanaut) you may find an AD who would do a decent discount (say up to 20% off list). Other ADs won't budge on the same model. If its a hard to get model, then just forget about a discount. If it's a really hard to get model, well you won't even have it offered to you. In the extreme (say a minute repeater) Patek's president will qualify all purchasers. I don't think the ADs get any higher margin (percent) than on a Rolex. But the prices are so much higher that they get quite a few dollars on a sale (but they move quite a few less watches as well).

It is like everything else, it all depends on how well you know the AD and what type of history you have. Walking in off the street not knowing anyone, don't expect any discount, if you got some pull then 20% would be doable.

a simple Calatrava is possible at -20%
A more complicated watch like an annual calendar ? Be very happy with 10% Stainless steel Nautilusses, and chronographs like the 5960, probably no discount Watches like the 5070 and 5970 .. Be VERY happy if you even can get one. Some AD ask a premium for such a piece |

It completely depends on the AD and the model. A 5196 will be different than a 5980, which will be different than a 5396...depending upon the state of sales, etc. If you have a specific model in mind, that would help.
Bill, you can get a $17K model (which one are you speaking of?) for $12K? That I've not seen...Mr. Lucky.

Visit Europe and get about 15% discount before you even start negotiating :-)

As information for the thread from a very recent case: purchasing in Spain's a 5196 at MSRP after tax refund is equivalent to US MSRP with 20% discount and 8% sales tax.

What about discounts in London, Singapore or places like Zurich? In KL, it seems is no more than 6 percent even for the slower moving models like Calatrava.
Need the information as I plan to acquire a 4897 for my 20th wedding anniversary towards end of the year. |

The CEO of FC Bayern München comes to mind... He barely managed to avoid a jail term after walking through the "nothing to declare" line at the airport with 100+k worth of watches he had received as a present in some gulf country. Then again a jail term would have been a splendid opportunity to catch up w the former (and again current) President of the same football club who happened to serve time for tax evasion related to FX speculation... |

I've heard 20% in recent times on a 5196, but that was with an established buyer at the AD.

The one good thing about this 9 year old thread is that it is obvious very quickly ("On some of the easy to find models (say an aquanaut) ..."

True, 15% is just VAT, so agree it's not a discount. THEN comes the 15% to 20% discount on top of the 15%
Patek buyers tend to be very smart financially, so am sure they can calculate the savings... plus you get to take a nice vacay in Europe too. Win-win

Only models that come to mind are all the ones on display. Like a twenty-4 where you can negotiate % on them. Anything sports is a huge no-no from them. Almost blasphemy.

I agree it is still possible to get a discount on models that are on display and discounts will be higher out side London. Recently even without asking I was offered a 10% discount on a grand complication piece which was on display.
