The Black GMT is Going to Return!.......right?

A black bezel GMT 116710LN for $12,000 on TRF??? This thing is just getting the new movement and then will be back in strong numbers like before, right? That's what I think anyway. Paying 25% above MSRP seems insane.

Wouldn’t it have switched to a new model number like the BLNR did? Pretty sure it’s gone, and definitely no oyster.

From a thread on this forum, the answer is NO because they it looks too much a like Submariner. I think Rolex is reducing its SS sport offering. A discontinued black bezel GMT 116710LN for $12,000 is still a good deal compared for $20,000 SS BLRO GMT.

The prevailing thought based on some articles I read is that the gmt line is only going to exist in by-colored bezel options to distinguish it from the Submariner models.

I think the new Batman is the basic gmt now, not a black one.

Yup Rolex wants to differentiate between sub and GMT line up.
All black bezel with oyster bracelet will be sub and GMT will carry on with bi color bezel with jubilee bracelet.
Keep dreaming if you believe LN GMT II is coming back any time soon.

Let me inquire with my crystal ball............. Nope, don't hear or see anything.

The answer is; no one knows, but one thing is for certain - It wont come back as a 116710LN. It would most likely be a 126710LN if anything. My guess is that they would replace oyster with the jubilee bracelet too.

Several watch blogs reported Rolex actually saying that the GMT would only have bi-colour bezels going forward. The fact that all the single-colour models were discontinued at the same time certainly supports it.

I'm fine with that, personally. The GMT has been just a sub with a different numbers on the bezel for too long. I'd much rather have seen a meaningful change to the case design, but I'll take new bezels and bracelets.

(Wouldn't it have been cool if the GMTs, say, lost the crown guards? Or maybe got slimmer lugs? Both crown guards and thicker lugs feel more appropriate on the very tool-ish sub, and it would have been a nice point of distinction between the models.)

I think all future GMTs will have bi-color bezels and the steel bracelets will be jubilee.

I’m not challenging you or anything, but I find that REALLY hard to believe.

Isn’t Rolex super secretive? When you write “Rolex actually saying...” who was talking?

Why didn’t someone raise their hand and ask Rolex himself/herself when the hulk would be discontinued and which watch is the best investment?

I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not buying it.

Of what i heard from my AD director, is that black GMT is coming back with the red hand and jubilee bracelet in a couple of years and discontinue the BATMAN. Rolex wants to use and finish up the black and blue bezel manufactured in excess. They want to get the old GMT lineage back, PEPSI, COKE, BLACK bezel, and eventually out with black and blue bezel.
Who knows how much truth there is in this? Only Rolex knows.

I do not know what Rolex will introduce in the near future , but of course the GMT LN will return. Probably indeed with jubilee bracelet and 3285 calibre. Like the rootbeer/CHNR Rolex will recycle their classic models with remakes. This operating model is already in place for decades and brought Rolex on the top of the watch game.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. GMTs look better with a splash of colour anyway.

LN GMTs also looked good but all the old ones are still out there and you can easily pick one up anytime you like.

But Rolex introducing a black/chocolate rootbeer bezel (instead of the old brown/yellow) is a step going the opposite direction. But yeah, who knows really except Rolex.

I can’t see it returning anytime soon, I love my black GMT even though it’s was seen by many as the ugly step Child of the line up.

looks like it’s turning into a Cinderella watch which is great to see but I’m not tempted to sell or trade, for me it was always the most versatile and likely to age the best - it’s discontinuation has just expedited matters in my opinion.

who knows, maybe its a long term plant to get a full range back in but who knows,

Maybe coke next and the choice of a brushed oyster or new jubilee but I wouldn't second guess what they are planning, I think the line up lost a star when they pulled the black GMT on oyster

True. Go back 6-12 months and most ADs I spoke to said the GMT would be fairly easily obtainable when compared to the Sub D and ND. Now all of a sudden everyone wants one? The mind boggles.

The Sub looks better anyways

I posited this theory last year as it made sense to delineate the lines more, so I can believe the LN is now gone, plus if we get a CokeC then 3 SS models is enough.

As many people have pointed out the black bezel makes little sense on a GMT watch. Two colours highlight the day and night cycle better and help differentiate it from a Submariner much better. I don't think it'll be back.

It will come back. One of their best seller. They’re just setting up to change the new movement. Flippers will say no so they can sell it for higher.

Ha, agreed! IMHO it is by far the best looking modern Rolex. A recent seller photo I thought captured it well:

I'm kind of expecting it to return with the new movement and a Jubilee. If they want to distinguish it from the Sub going forward.. the Jubilee will do exactly that. All GMTs with Jubilee, Subs with Oyster.

Huh?

It was the first GMT II Ceramic in Steel...Not highly regarded or in demand?
