First Rolex

Great review...I retired a few years ago and wanted to gift myself something special for my 60th birthday. I always wanted to own a Rolex and was doing some research until I saw the Air King. It was different from other Rolex and the price was right for me. I did a lot of reading of the pro and cons but I read enough to make me want to pull the trigger. I really like the different colors on that Rolex used on this Air King. I thought it could be sporty or dressy and it just looked so different from any other Rolex. I just check this morning and the check I sent for the balance was cashed. Waiting to hear from them on when it will be deliver. Should have it in two days.. Some don't like the changes on the watch but I love it... if you don't like it, don't buy it you buy what makes you happy not anyone else... Can't wait to get it. Bottom line is I can't afford and 12,000 or more watch but I had to pull the trigger on this my first Rolex... Life is short so if you can afford something get it.... Thanks for the input from everyone....will update when I get my RAK...

Incredibly well-written review! Made me consider the Air-king as my next acquisition!

Congratulations on your retirement and your watch! Perhaps I didn't read carefully, but did you buy it new? Was it easy to find with an Authorized Dealer? I know from experience that walking into a Rolex AD and asking for a Rolex steel sports watch makes people laugh at you for being naive (they are very hard to find).

New with papers, box, serial number, tag and a Rolex warranty for 5 years. Do some research and you can also find one... enough said...

I wanted to post a picture of the Air King I just got last week but can't figure out how to do it. I have the picture on my laptop desktop but not sure how to post it... Thanks.

Great write up. I love the new Air King and its on my short list. Just have to figure out what it would replace (new rules ha ha). I think the AK would be a great watch with various color natos, rubber, or other straps to pull out the various colors on the dial

I have the Air-king and like everyone else was unsure at first.
The only way I believe you should KNOW if you like a watch or not is to.....and here comes the secret...….TRY IT ON!
Then, and only then, can you be SURE if its your thing or not. Pics only give you a general idea of how things look and therefore you can only have a general idea/opinion of if you like it or not.
Anyone can have opinions good or bad but I think the ones that matter are from the people who take the time and effort to genuinely, and open minded, check out the item in question and form an unbiased view.
I mean if Rolex had never changed anything they would be accused of not moving with the times? or being purely traditionalist. Cant win.
Life is short.....try things....you never know you might enjoy yourself...its only a WATCH

Great review. The AK is unique and those that have them likely don’t see too many other ones in the wild. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for one to get a feel for it on wrist. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Well in my opinion it feels well balanced on the wrist for being 152 grams. Once you have it on a few times you won't even notice it's on the wrist. .

Slowly getting into the watch game, and this one is definitely speaking to me. Thanks for the review.

Maybe it's because I'm a millennial and it's "different."

I've got an AK and absolutely love it. Always like when these threads pop up and then I see something elsewhere that speaks to the model. This article isn't the most flattering; yet it's refreshingly honest:

This was helpful and insightful. Really enjoy the color combo and simplicity of the AK.

Now and I must say the A-K in my favourite watch ! I just love it’s quirks!

Thank you for a great review. My A-K says hello.

I do like this reference. I brought a buddy who was visiting from out of town to my AD with me to pick up my EX II. This was in the Spring of 2018. They had an Air King in the case and my buddy picked it up on a whim and even got a 12% discount. Getting a new Rolex sport model for $5,700 is a steal. Really fun watch.

There is something about the AirKing that makes it special. Great look, different dial, classic design...a winner

I’m sold. Having owned the standard Rolex Grails: Daytona, Submariner (red and 114060), DSSD-D-Blue, GMT, SD4K, SD43...and so on...I am absolutely surprised at the experience of owning and wearing the 116900. Definitely not your Father’s Rolex. Secret Bonus: Women like it better than all the other standard, predictable commons. Happy Father’s Day 2020.
