I’ve lost passion for it too, sadly. The market for some brands has me really turned off. That and the scene of social media hyping up brands and models.

The “club” has gotten too big.

It was more fun being a watch nerd. I preferred when people made fun of me for it.

I buy watches because I like them. I’m not asking for a “relationship “, but instead, a transaction.

It goes like this, I walk into a shop, try a watch on, pull out my financial payment of choice and purchase.

Imagine that, actually buying what I want at MSRP, and having a salesman thank ME for concluding the transaction.

Until that dynamic returns, I’m out.

I own 4 Rolex, never flipped any Rolex and won’t buy another one until the above conditions are met.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it Mr. Rolex AD.

interesting how communication works.

i can't imagine how my post prompted your response. but i am sure something i wrote triggered it.

anyway, to address your comment, I really like my AD and have a very nice relationship with them. i have little to no problems with most AD's and their place in the market.

my issue, which is not really an issue, is the actual watch collectors and how it has exploded on social media and everywhere else. i don't really like the attitudes i see either. it is just not for me. i prefer to be the geek not the cool guy. watches were better when they were for geeks.

and hey, its not an issue. i am not complaining. i honestly don't care. i have a nice little collection that gives me some diversity and i like it.

for some very good reasons, i just prefer cars.

on my way to work this morning some tool was tailgating me. i was in 3rd just coming out of a school zone, driving super slow. i mean....school zone. anyway, as i come out and pass the crossing guards, i dropped it into 2nd to take a turn and left tailgater in my dust. it was, and always is exhilarating.

to me, there is very little else that gives me the excitement and feeling of being alive than torque and the sound of an exhaust.

^^^

Interesting thought just occurred to me.

I got into the hot power yoga movement pretty early on. I taught at the first and only studio in manhattan before opening mine.

it exploded shortly after. I rode the wave for a few years, but just needed to get out. it was the people that got to me. i still love the practice. I got out at the right time too. and that too was an instagram explosion.

i do realize that cars are also a big deal. so maybe i am speaking out of both sides of my mouth a bit. but i can be alone in my car. and it gives me an almost euphoric feeling every time i am.

I use to have a half dozen watches, Rolex's, and grew tired of the people here and the process of it all. I sold them all except a Omega Seamaster Professional, it's a wonderful watch, tough as nails and appropriate at the beach or with a tuxedo. It's plenty for me and you grew more attached to a daily wearer than just it being one watch in a rotation.

That’s my whole point, watch collecting/flipping and social media have really screwed it up for the watch nerds. I’m one of them!

So, instead of harping on dealers and bribing them with bundling to get a “hot” watch, I’ll just pass and pine for the old days.

I don’t need to be a player. I just like watches.

I haven’t left the hobby, I’m just waiting for the arrivistes to leave...

Seth, let me give you my honest opinion.

I fantasize about... well a lot of things but one is coming in to a large sum of money. I run through the things I would do with it. I love my (one) Rolex, I get pleasure out of wearing it, and the new 2019 AG GMT is on the list of items in my fantasy. BUT, a brand new Lincoln MKZ Reserve 2 Hybrid is MUCH higher. Bottom line: of course I get pleasure from my Rolex, it I definitely get MORE from a nice car.

IMHO - I love watches. There are a few watches out there that I really want. For example, I would love to own your 116655. However, my love for watches do not come close to my passion for cars.

I would give up all my watches before I would give up my Porsche. If I could liquidate a few pieces and move towards a Ferrari or McLaren, you better believe I am going that way.

To add to Paul's "large sum of money" hypothetical - If I won a huge, ridiculous lottery jackpot, I would probably end up with 10 watches. However, I would have so many cars. I am talking a warehouse full of vehicles. Get the car!

great posts guys.

For some of us, there is just something about cars that inspires such good feelings. at no other time am I as happy as when I am behind the wheel.

the SA drove it to my house today in order to ensure my driveway was good, and that it fit in my garage. green lights on both accounts.

hypothetical large sum of money and I am going to have a ridiculous collection of cars. I do not even know where to begin.....

Ironic, Seth - I stepped out of race cars into watches.

Watches are cheaper...

Well I have learned that a drawer full of watches is easier to manage than a building full of cars/trucks. I have achieved both and am focusing on watches for the time being. They don't require new batteries, they don't drip oil, and they always "start."

Easy decision by by watches! I don’t get too attached they are just watches right?

I sold a bunch last year and put it towards renovations of a new home I bought. No regrets at all!

Was going to hold off to post. But what the heck.

They drove to my house to ensure it fit in my garage. It looks pretty good there.

Hey brother. How are you? Unless I change professions or do a **** load of consulting work I will never play in that arena. One of the drawbacks of working in non profit healthcare. But I really do not fit well in them either. Probably stick with the Germans for cars lol.

Mark! I'm doing pretty well, traveling back and forth from Houston to Mexico every week.

You're right about fitting in a sports car. My dream sports car is the GTR, I've never driven one but I hope I fit. I think I will stick to SUVs for a while

My man.

Before blue, I was black on black.

I’d love blue. But this works super.

Even if it doesn't fit in your garage, just build out the garage and make it fit! It looks beautiful. Congrats, I am happy for you!
