I like astronomy and I’m thinking it’s time that I get an Omega Speedmaster in the collection. I’m waiting to see what they release with the calibre 321 movement going back into production. I’ve never owned a Speedmaster before.

I think the Sub is an overall better balanced watch but the SD4K has the date and it's proportions aren't grotesque like the newer models. Plus it's discontinued and will be harder to source if you have regrets.

I'm gonna jump on the Sea-Dweller bandwagon too.

SD4K if there was purely two watches against each other but I have a feeling you will regret selling the Sub. You got it for that reason to create a memory of your father. Besides the Sub is slightly more wearable despite the fat lugs honestly, it’s less thick.

You might regret it money wise selling the SD4K. It’s also an awesome watch!

I think the lesson here is, don’t get sentimental about watches ;)

It looks like the majority vote is to keep the SD. It sounds to me like that's the one that you want, so I agree. I assume that your Dad can't wear the sub any more due to an illness, and I understand the sentimental reasons for keeping it. That's a personal decision, up to you. Being the original owner with paperwork would not figure into it for me though. You could probably sell it today for what you paid, or better, if that helps at all. Maybe use that money for a trip for you and your dad somewhere on his bucket list?

Now I love me the 114060 (I wear it every day), but if I owned an SD 116600, there is no way I'd part with it.

Sub. No brainer. But since you already own both I'd keep them and add whatever you're thinking.

One is your family watch, one is a cool collectible... keep the family watch, and continue collecting with your incoming.

IMO there is such a discrepancy between the two. The SD4K is such an amazing watch. I would argue it is one of the most special modern Rolex made in past 10 years. Not saying anything bad about the iconic Sub, just wouldn’t put it in the same league as SD4K.

On paper, SD4k over sub all day, any day.

But I think you’ll regret selling the Sub that you bought for your dad and that he wore. I also think you can pick up a Speedy (a watch I also love) anytime. It’s just sooooooo easy to source at below retail.

If it were me, I’d keep both and add a Speedy later when you have the funds to add without selling from the current collection.

Either way, I wish you many more good days with your dad.

You have an emotional connection to the Submariner and will regret it if you sell it. The Seadweller is just a watch.

Out of the two. I'd keep the SD without hesitation.
However out of the two, the personal and emotional attachment you've created with the Sub makes it harder to sell. If you can justify / overcome this, I would sell the Sub. The fact your father has given you the green light is huge. Regardless if you keep the Sub or not, the memories won't ever go anywhere.

I own the Sub C and a 5 digit SD. The SD gets way more wrist time. Best of luck with your decision.

Thank you, this is what I needed to hear. We both decided its just a watch over coffee (that was the blessing I needed) and hopefully we're going to take another trip to Italy again later this year.
