Trade Speedy for SBGW231?

Hey All,

Thinking about swapping my Speedmaster Moonwatch for a GS SBGW231. I recently acquired a Tudor Black Bay 36 and am loving the small case size ( wrist are around 6.75in). My Speedy was my first real (For lack of a better word) watch. All opinions welcome.

Thank You

Don't think of it as swapping a moonwatch for that GS, they are completely different watches.

It's more like this;
1. Bought a tool watch in nice 36mm size, like it, would want all watches to be this comfortable.
2. Hmm.. my speedy is kind of chunky compared to the Tudor, I don't like the fit anymore. Let's get rid of it.
3. Now I have a budget of 3-5k to buy a new watch, what should I get?
4. Always liked those SBGW231 GS. It's a dress watch and I already have a sports watch in the Tudor.. yeah I will get that one.

So trade an icon for a basic run of the mill dress watch that you can wear how often? So this is an easy hard no. First, the speedy is an icon and perhaps the most important wrist watch with regard to real (not made up heritage looking at you Daytona) heritage. Second, itís a far more versatile watch and can be worn with shorts to a sport jacket. The strap options also increase the versatility. Lastly, the style of the speedy is frozen. Fashion and trends come and go, then there is the speedy. My 2 cents save and get the GS, not saying thatís not a great watch-it is, but getting rid of an icon you may regret.

I’d make the trade. Especially if you have other sport watches. The 231 can be dressed down to a denim shirt. It’s a cool watch. I never worn my speedy so...that’s the way I’d go. Speedys are worth a little more on the grey market but it’s close.

I would go for what you think you would wear more often. There are too many good watches out there for us to keep locked up in our collections. I am more in the school of "if I don't wear it, i move it."

Just personal opinion I’d keep the Speedy. And I LOVE Grand Seiko.

Thank you all for your opinions. Regardless, I need a manual wind-er in the collection. I am appreciating the smaller size of the BB36. Very comfortable. Makes the SBGW231 more appealing. But I do love my Speedy. Decisions, decisions.
