I'm not sure myself. I was just reading it and noticed it was locked.

Not sure either? No bells or whistles went off, as far as I can tell.

Also curious as it was a legitimate query with no follow-up hostilities and/or rudeness.

chances are the OP of that thread mentioned a company the forum or rolex has had concerns with or the OP's posts have been monitored-- therefore kill it quick.

i've noticed that when an explanation is left by a mod, its a learning opportunity for the forum. when there isn't, it's not worth opening a debate because it just the way it is.

lets remember, this is a private forum and there really doesn't have to be a reason given.

A lock doesn't necessarily mean that a rule was broken. If a mod thinks a thread has run its course (e.g. OP's question has been resolved, thread is years old and OP is long gone, etc.) then he has the right to lock it

I try to look at as many locked threads as I can make sure I don't inadvertantly post a disruptive thing or violate a rule of the forum, and some of them I am scratching my head why they might have been locked. Expalnations help us to learn how to keep things between the lines.

Looking at that thread, I don't think any of those were met. Still trying to find out why the Maratac Nato is labeled as a Zulu. If you read through the thread, its very confusing. I know there's a number of Maratac fans on this board, so I figured this would be a good thread to have for future reference. I guess I was wrong?

I'm active on numerous forums, from College Athletics forums supporting my school to forums that deal with my FJ60.... I have never had a thread locked, let alone locked this quick with no explanation of what I did wrong.

As stated above, one mod (me) was offered $$$$$$$$ to close the thread.

I was subsequently offered $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to re-open.

My greed won as usual.

Other than that, dunno why it was locked (if it ever was locked) and then unlocked.

It was indeed locked. Others on this thread made comments about it. I wouldn't have posted this if it wasn't.

So, mods can be offered $ to lock threads around here?

Had a thread locked recently on open discussion, it didn't seem to be in violation to any rules and was locked within a few minutes of posting. Do mods ever follow up as to why a thread was locked? Not sure what I did wrong or what to do different in the future...

The few responses you got should give you a clue. Threads about personal net worth and salary never end well, so we just end them in advance.

The very first 3 responses to your thread should have given you a clue as to the fate of the thread.

I wasn't really inquiring about personal wealth or how much anyone made but rather what percentage of their income they put towards their watch hobby... Its kind of something I would discuss more in a personal finance community but as they aren't watch enthusiasts, it wouldn't do me any good to answer there. I provided a percentage value of how my watches, without saying what they were and what they cost compared to my income without saying what that was and how much I made. I didn't think it would be inappropriate given the sub forum and that it didn't break any rules but I guess if its deemed un-interesting by some then its not something that will be discussed here.

Keep questioning the mods and you'll soon find out how interesting it is.
