I use the chronograph at work to time my lunch break.

I only use it for the fun of it. Probably never to actually time something.

Usage of Daytona Chronos

Some fun facts:

1. You can leave the pushers unscrewed. It is just a doorstop to prevent depressing the button while underwater. It serves no waterproofing function (no seal or gasket). You aren't swimming in it anyway I assume.

2. You can start the Chrono at 9 or 3 and track east coast time from west coast or vice versa using the 12 hour sub dial. Vertical clutch column wheel is happy to run 24/7

I wonder how often Daytona owners would use the Chrono if it didn’t have the screw down pushers? I have a speedmaster and use the chrono function all the time. Mostly for cooking steaks or fish on the grill. It’s also cool just to watch the red hand sweep around the dial.

I'll use mine on occasion. However if I go long without engaging I will usually let it run a full cycle to keep the oils moving.

I agree. It’s not worth the effort to use the chrono on a Daytona it’s more hassle than it’s sorry I mean you have to take the bloody watch off to screw them back in properly. I own (currently) two Daytonas and I have never ever unscrewed either. A breitling chrono I own on the other hand I do use.

Not often. But every now and then like to run the stopwatch in sync with small seconds. Mostly for fun and to get the chrono moving.

I love the look of a chrono, but seldom use it. I think if it didn't have screw down pushers, I'd play with it more. But I did make the giant effort to unscrew them now, and it's running!

It does have a crisp but firm activation. I will say when I tried on a 5170P, the activation was buttery smooth.

If you have to take the watch off you’re tightening it too much. It’s not a waterproofing screw deal, it’s a door stop only. Just screw it to its end point.

I do not use it for this purpose, but I imagine you can stop the sweeping Seconds Hand at the appropriate minute marker (1-31) to mark the date.

I don't own a chrono anymore, but when I had a Speedy I would time my commute to work when driving. These days I use the rotating bezel of my divers.

You don't have to screw them down unless you're diving and might push them on accident.

I’d find it pretty unsightly leaving them unscrewed all the time. For me personally it does definitely put me off using the function compared to other chronos. Don’t get me wrong though I do love the Daytona.

While the screw down pushers are the primary reason I never use the chrono on Daytona but frequently use it on my Soeedmaster, another reason is the difference in increment markings. Speedmaster much more intuitive and useful to me on that front as well. All that said my black, steel Daytona is my second favorite watch to look at which is what most of this is all about in the end.

Only got my Daytona recently. Only played with the chrono twice. Don't intend to ever use it, really.
I just stare at it.
Now I know how Bilbo felt.

I had a gold Daytona that I called "the BBQ timer" and every time I grilled (not often) I would time the meat with the chrono. I sold the watch and ever since I can't grill a good steak. I need a Daytona...

Agree on everything.

I do the same. Use it to lubricate the hands once in a while.

As far as usage GMT > Sub > Daytona. So much easier to time things with the Sub than Daytona. And I don't need to be that accurate for timing.

I use it all the time, mainly to time my tea steeping and to time how long I’m in the steam room. If the screwing is annoying, just leave it unscrewed.

Never, but to be fare, I never use the Bezels on my Submariners, and I rarely change the date on my watches that have that function.

Haha, to time your steam room minutes, or how long your tea has been brewing or grilling chicken?!

Mr Newman must have that in mind too

I like chronographs but not to really time anything. When I have one on though I start the function and I enjoy watching the hands move.
